The Bersaglieri were a type of troops formed in Italy to serve in the place of cavalry. They are specially trained infantry marksmen who are renowned for running everywhere they go, even in parades where they keep a steady jog, they can face punishment for not running everywhere they go.

Granatieri just means grenadiers, they were units composed of the strongest and biggest men. They were originally formed to carry and use grenades.

Carabinieri were a police corps formed to police civilians and military alike.

The Carabinieri is a National police force. Unlike normal policemen who have local responsibilities, the Caribinieri report to Rome. There are few counties that have their equivalent today. Two that come to mind are Spain's Guardia Civil and Canada's Royal Canadian Mounted Police. All three wear distinctive uniforms.

The granatieri (plural for granatiere) is a grenadier in english. The Grenadiers of Sardinia (Granatieri di Sardegna) remain as a brigade in the Italian Army today.

    Carabinieri Definition

Not totally sure since I've never ready that book, but carabineros are policemen in Spanish (at least in some dialects), so maybe that's the word for cops in Italian.

These are military/paramilitary/MP people each one using/assigned a certain weapon- carabinieri are the ones using carbins ( carbin troops/units?). Granatieri - some military/paramilitary units using/specializing in the use of grenades and the others I guess have some other military weapon or task assigned to them.

"Carabinieri" National Guard of Italy. Now a Military branch.

"Bersaglieri" Corps of the Royal Italian Army. The word means "sharpshooters".

"Granatieri" Infantry brigade of the Italian Army during WWI
