Songs Of Praise,BBC 1 Sunday Evening......?

Everytime i've caught this on TV,the church they are broadcasting from is usually packed with a happy, smiling congregation.

Now this goes against the reports that state attendance at church is declining with each generation.

So my question is this-are these folk singing their hearts out only there to get their faces on the TV,or have these reports got it wrong?

Update:

Potentiallywonderful-I was never a fan of 'Not The 9 O'Clock News'-didn't think it was funny, tbh, but that sketch is pretty much what i'm getting at....

James - keenly observed, though the sketch below pre-dates you by 27 years .. . enjoy

(this nation flatters itself that it is "post-christian", the truth is, it was never Christian in the first plave, what it calls "church" isn't, it is pre-christian / pagan. Only a few find the Life and live it, have you?)

I think that the churches that get chosen to be on screen are the ones that do have a fairly good church attendance. The BBC wouldn't pick a small church that gets maybe 10 people a week in to be on TV because that wouldn't really be a good look on a religious programme.

People will probably still come along to churches they haven't set foot in for a long time if there's a chance they'll get on TV though - like that episode of the Vicar of Dibley.

There are more people at Church on Sunday than at all professional soccer matches over the same weekend.
