If I attend court, if the ticket it not dropped or lowered, is it possible to take classes to erase the violation or points against your license?

Update:

Ok I've NEVER believed in the whole Friday the 13th bringing bad luck up until this month on Friday... the 13th.

It was like any other normal day...I went to work and clocked out. I clocked out at 2:20pm. I turned in my time sheet and was on my way home or to do whatever in town. There is a school right up the road. The lights were flashing, which meant that school was "in process" and the speed limit is 25. So I'm doing the speed limit through the school zone and right as I get to the end, I see a cop. It's heavy traffic mind you. I'm in the right lane.. there is a slow truck in front of me doing 20mph. I look back and cars were behind me, but far enough to where I could get over. I am right there at the end of the school zone (where the cops usually sit) and I come around the guy. Next thing I know I'm up the road (about 5-10) mins later, I get pulled over!! The police said he clocked me doing 42- in a 25 speed zone?!?! There is NOOOO way. Ugh... this really ruined my weekend and day. My court date is Jan 13th, 2010. I am going to fight this is court... here is my arguement...

1. In the 2 YEARS I have been driving, I have never received any ticket for speeding, dui, seatbelt... ect.

2. How could I be doing 42mph if on the TICKET it says HEAVY TRAFFIC

3. If I was speeding, why did the cop wait 10 minutes to "pull me over?"

4. I was at the end of the school zone overtaking a car (is it possible he got a bad redar reading?) I did a little research and read that radar guns are inaccurate 25% of the time.

We called in the ticket and they ticket is $71.00... I could also get points against my license... OMG. I'm Freaking out.

Please help me, I'm really down on this. I have never received a ticket and I'm nervous about the whole thing.

you could ask the court, mind you if the ticket wasnt lowered or whatever, if you could go to traffic school to get it off your record. it usually works and is ok. hope it helped

He may have got what we call a shadow reading, which sometimes happens with radar units. Basically it took both your speed and the speed of the truck you were passing and simply added them together. I have had this happen to me several times when my radar unit shows someone passing a semi at 165 mph.

Now as for the 10 minute interval between the supposed infraction and your being stopped, it is entirely possible that it took him that long to get into and through traffic to catch up to you although I personally would have not pursued that long.

Unfortunately for you getting the officer to admit if in fact he got a shadow that he did is pretty slim. Also your research is off, radar units when properly calibrated and tested are 100% accurate.

My best advice to you is to attend court or call them and see if you can go to a traffic school, i my jurisdiction when you do that after completion of the school the city dismisses the citation and you get no points on your license and it does not go against you for insurance purposes.
