When you filled out your FAFSA it asked you to provide the name of the school that you will be attending. Whatever that school is that you picked is who you have to contact. You have to call that college and talk to somebody in the financial aid department. They will tell you what the next step is. You also have to fill out an application for the college and declare a major before they can process your financial aid any further.

FAFSA takes a looooong time. The "processing" stage takes up to 8 weeks.

At the community college I am attending i was able to begin even without the FAFSA financial aid, i was able to use a BOG fee waiver which stalled all of the enrollment fees until I received my financial aid.(your college may not have such an option)

I still had to buy books with my own cash though.. the waiver didn't cover those.

If you need more help you can contact the financial aid office at the college you are going to. You will have to speak with them eventually anyways especially if you are going the financial aid route. Im sure they will know exactly how to help you, many people have gone through the same thing you are. Even my situation wasn't far from yours.

Is is possible to get into colleges if you can meet all of the following:

    About your high school education

In what state and high school did you graduate from? Was it a high school that was rated as a rigorous one in terms of its academic standards? What was your GPA in high school? Did you participate in any extracurricular activities, clubs or sports?

About your letters of recommendation letters

Will your letters of recommendations come from well-known professionals who can give an adequate assessment of your capabilities? Are your letter writers highly respected and did they know you well?

    About your test scores

Have you taken the SATs or the ACTs? What are those scores?

    About your writing abilities

What kind of writing have you done? Did you do a senior thesis for your bachelor's degree? Will you be able to write a good college admissions essay on any subject you choose?

    Community activities

When you were in high school, did you volunteer for any agency work or community work outside of the high school?

    Work experience

Will your employers say that you were a good worker? Did you miss work frequently? Was your work stressful? Did you provide the employer with ideas about how to improve the work you were doing?

    Your college admission interview

Did you dress appropriately for your interview? Were you confident in your appearance

Source(s): I was a college professor who had served on four admissions committees at four universities
