Why are F1 drivers so greedy?
Surely it makes little difference if you earn £5 million or £10 million, either is a stupidly large amount of money. Isn't it more important to have a competitive car, win races and be remembered for years to come?
Raikkonen snubbed a McLaren offer and Button has jumped ship at Brawn/Mercedes largely because of money. (I know there are other issues, but money was a major factor in both cases.)

I wouldnt call it greed, its what the sport and sponsorship dictates, Now when it comes to football then yeah its stupid the wages these people are on, for what, Go and ask Massa and his misses if they should get paid so much. I think I would want quite a lot of money to know that each time I go out in a car I may die. and I want a little bit more if I was the best in the world at driving, remember these guys have been trying to get the top spot since they were 6years old.
Lok at it in a different view, if someone offered you a job one paid £50k a year the other paid £100k a year, both jobs you would be doing exactly the same...which would you choose, remeber money makes this world spin and if I know by going down the pit lane 3 spaces means I get the yacht I have always wanted then so be it IM OFF.

They don't steal from you.
They ask for a share of the money made, money they help make.
If Button settles for less, his boss will keep the rest, it will not go into your pocket.
What is it with people, comparing their salaries to those of athletes?
And why don't they ever identify with the bosses?
Why do you find it more appropriate to always associate with the worker and not their boss?
They make more money anyway.
You want Button to get less money so you can feel better about your salary and the fact you can't negotiate it?
Nope.
He can negotiate his contract and if he asks for money they can't give him they won't.
He's only gonna get what they can give him, it's what he deserves for his services.
Raikonen's problem was not about the money.
He didn't like the obligations of a driver away from the track, the sponsor appearances and the like.
He's also difficult to deal with and not sociable with the media.
Not very marketable which is a necessity these days.
He's not out because he asked for too much.

I have it on good authority (the British motor racing press) that Jenson didn't have a lot of choices, and he's not making any more at McLaren than Brawn was offering.

Why is it only greedy for drivers? If a normal human was given the oppurtunity to double their salary by taking a sabatical (kimi) or going to a better job (jenson) they'd jump for joy.

Jenson only went to mclaren because of the salary.
think about it. He just won a world championship with a team formed from honda who know him for a very long time and he ditches them.
silly boy...
