What do you think the possibility is for Lincecum to win the Cy Young?

As a Giants fan, obviously I am all for the idea, but I just want to hear what you guys think. Why or why shouldn't Tim Lincecum win the Cy Young? If not, who do you think should, and why?

he should get it. the lowest FIP in the NL and the most SO. his season was not only cy young caliber, it was MVP caliber. still I fully expect him to get screwed out of it.

Source(s): oh and Joe H, lincecum's K/BB is better than carp's not worse. say this when you see that stat: Ks per Walk.

He definitely has a chance, a record of 15-7, and an ERA of 2.48 are very respectable. However, his win total would be very low for a Cy Young winner.

As much as I hate to say this as a Cub's fan, the Cy Young award is probably going to St. Louis. Either to Adam Wainwright (19-8 with a 2.63 ERA), or his partner in crime Chris Carpenter (17 - 4, with 2.24 ERA).

My guess for Cy Young voting, 1st Carpenter, 2nd Wainwright, 3rd Lincecum.

People are too enamored by Lincecum's strikeouts. He didnt really have that many. Randy Johnson broke 300 so many times. Lincecum only had 261. I wouldnt call 261 blowing away the league. Randy had 372 in 2001, thats blowing away the league. Besides K's Lincecum is behind Carpenter in most other major categories.

ERA Carpenter 2.24 Led the NL Lincecum 2.48

    WHIP Carpenter 1.007 Lincecum 1.047

K/BB Carpenter 3.79 Lincecum 3.84 (This shows you that lincecum is more wild than Carpenter. Despite the fact that lincecum had more K's he proportionately had more walks. )

Winning % Carpenter .810 Led the NL Lincecum .682 (i kno wins arent as big a stat as the others mentioned but the fact that carpenter led the league in ERA combined with leading the league in winning % shows that he continually held the other team to fewer runs than lincecum and continually held the other team to fewer runs than the Cardinals scored)

Strikeouts Carpenter 144 Lincecum 261 - I really dont think this is as important of a stat as people make it out to be. It doesnt matter how you get the batters out it matters how few runs you let up and if you are helping your team win games. Strikeouts do help getting batters out but are not an end all be all stat that a pitcher is the best.

Also, Lincecum was on a playoff contending team. Its not like he was on the Royals. His team still won games and he managed to lose 7 of them. I give Greinke a break on wins and losses bc the Royals royally suck. But the Giants were better than a lot of teams.

Wainwright only leads the league in wins and is behind the other candidates in other statistical pitching categories. The only reason he is ahead of Carpenter is because Carpenter missed a month of the season.

Chris Carpenter will win the NL CY young tomorrow definitely. So wait until its announced so you can pick me for best answer. I would put $1,000 on it because I know its going to happen.

As Yogi Berra might say it's a 50/50 chance between Lincecum, Wainwright and Carpenter.

A case can be made for any of the three, and the voters are in a tough spot. Whoever they pick, supporters of the other two will be upset.

it's very possible, his strike out to walk ratio was very impressive, like 260 some to 60 some. but I think carpenter has an edge with the era and wins

It's possible. The votes were in before he got with drugs. Selig won't like it though because the questions will be about the drugs instead of the award.

he should because he led the nl in strike outs. he lifted a last place team to within 4 games of the playoffs. he made matt cain and barry zito more comftorable.

not much because he has 4 less wins then the league leader

It's very possible. I'll say he wins it, like he should.
