C. The south lacked important natural resources

D. Cotton was a more profitable investment

The resolve of whites to maintain the institution of slavery:

A. led many southerners to try to oppose the American Colonization Society

B. Muted class conflict among whites

C. led to great divisions among whites

D. stripped slaves of all traces of their African heritage

Update:

okay i probably should have mentioned this: I HAVE looked at these questions no doubt but I couldn't find them in my book. The reason why I didn't write the answers I thought were right is because a lot of the time people just agree with you for the points and then I end up getting my own guesses wrong.

I think the first one is C and the second one is either A or C

Update 2:

I meant D for the first one! sorry!

This isn't HELP, this is DO. If you wish HELP, put down the answers you think are correct. We'll HELP by checking them for you.

EDIT: Yes, you should have. There are too many kids up here trying to cheat on their homework.

OK, I do agree with "D" for the first one. It was known as the "Cotton Economy".

On the second one, the ACS was supported by southerners -- they were afraid of revolts from free blacks. I would tend to go with D -- as slaves were forbidden much of their cultural heritage.
