Why can't people understand this about money?

Why can't people understand that it is smarter to save up for a vehicle, buy it, and then start saving for the next one. Has everyone become spoiled and rotten, I call this ignorance the: "I want it now because I forgot to pay attention to my parents about money" syndrome. Is this a reasonable belief?

Update:

I haven't seen that show but it sounds like I'll have to check it out, thanks Fireball. Since you and I seem to agree I'll add you as a contact.

Update 2:

Or I guess I won't

It took me a long time to figure out that people didn't intuitively realize this. I knew it for sure when I was 8. In fact, it's intuitive and easy for everyone on my mom's side.

I guess you are either born with it or you aren't. And if you aren't, hope your parents teach you and that you listen or you'll lose a lot of cash over time.

Like picture this situation. You can use 2 coupons, and have 2 of them. One reduces the price by a percent, the other by a fixed amount. Which one do you use first to save to most cash?

The percent-based one. It's intuitive for me, but I find it so surprising how people don't see this. This happens for almost everything. Most people don't even realize that it matters.

Like in the saving for a vehicle, it's intuitive too. My parents don't have to do a thing other than give me some spending money (allowance) and I learn everything. In fact, I intuitively know to save cash too...

Sad thing is, some people don't have the option of saving lots of money. But if you deal with the little things the big ones will take care of themselves.

I'm against it being forced by the schools though since economic theory is flawed; I can just feel it. Like they give bailouts instead of sending a few thousand to every taxpayer. The recession would already have ended. Yes, it's flawed.
