4 month old and naps?

Does anyone else's baby take a LOT of naps during the day? I keep reading that my little guy should be staying awake for about 2 hours now but the longest he's ever stayed awake without getting super crabby is 1.5 hours. Usually it's more like 1 hour before he's ready for a nap. Yawning, crabby, rubbing his eyes, all the tired cues. He's happy and ready to play when he wakes up anywhere from 30min to 2 hrs later. No real pattern to his naps yet, except that he tends to take a longish nap in the morning and mid afternoon. He always wants to go to sleep for the night at 7 no matter what. Just wondering if there are other babies out there like this and how their caregivers manage to get out of the house?!

Thanks

Update:

Taylor

Mine had the same kind of schedule until about 2 weeks ago when he suddenly decided to sleep from 7-12 12-5 and then sometimes til 6:30 or 7. We didn't even do anything different, I think he was just ready to sleep for longer.

Thanks, I'll try putting him in different places to sleep. He usually sleeps in his swing during the day. It's the only way he'll go to sleep most of the time. Although he sleeps in the crib fine at night.

Update 2:

Wow... my little guy also eats about every 1.5 hours... Maybe he's just a demanding kid?

He's huge though. He's already 28" and over 17lbs, not even chubby, just BIG. We're thinking about starting solids a big early (next month) since he's already starting to be able to sit up. He's really interested in our food too... :)

Thats a normal healthy sleep cycle, My son is 1 years old and can still only go 3 -4 hours max!! months up until probably 6-7 months he went to bed every 1.5 hours his kind of routine was

    630am- awake

    8am-930am sleep

    11am-1140am sleep

    1pm-130pm sleep

    3pm-340pm sleep

    530-6pm sleep

    8pm sleep!

It was great as he did sleep lots but a pain as it was lots of broken sleep and i was pretty much home bound, It doesnt last forever my son is now 1 and sleeps 2 hours in the morning and 45 mins in the arvo, so i kind of have 3 hours in the middle of the day to get out,, But yes i do remember that age of probably never leaving the house!!

Mine is 3 months old and gets crabby after an hour too but i cant get him to sleep that much, well he doesnt stay asleep anyways. But could probably use more like u are saying. I usually get him set up for bed around 9-930 because i cant sleep till then and i need all i can get..but he will wake up at 12 i stick the bottle in..he falls back asleep when hes done and i repeat about every three hours! Then at 7 am hes up and done with that stuff and ready to be talked to! but i wish mine would just last longer without milk. Ive even done rice and he doesnt last longer! But i think its okay that he likes to sleep a lot! I take mine whereever he seems to be okay as long as he can eat when he wants lol. Does yours sleep through the night or how long at a time?

When my daughter was 4 months old she didn't have any sort of pattern either. But I believe she stayed up for longer periods of time. She was so fussy like what you are describing.

I talked to a few friends who would put their baby in the cribs for their naps at certain times during the day so that the baby would sleep longer at night and that helped some of their problems. I never tried it. But the mommies who did it seemed happier than I was.

I just took my daughter everywhere with me. When they are that age you don't have to be at home for them to sleep.

Have comfort in knowing that every baby is different. And there is nothing wrong with your baby.

Hi, my baby is 4.5 months and this is his schedule:

    Wakes u at 7:30, Bottle

Then we are up playing, cleaning, and playing until maybe 10, and then he gets cranky and he takes a nap, but sometimes at 9:30

Then he wakes up 45 mins later and he eats again, and then I give him some veggies.

Then we play, clean some more, read, play blah blah and he takes another nap around 2:20 for about 1.3 hour.

then we play again and he takes another short nap around 5:30, and then he goes to bed at 8:30.

Does he sleep in his pram?? Maybe just try to get him used to sleeping in other places than his cot so that when you are out you can put him to sleep.

My bub used to nap quite frequently when he was that age!! I read on the internet he should only be having 3 naps and he was having far more than that.

If all other things seem fine, then i wouldn't worry.
