Why is health care reform more important than fixing our economy?

I really don't get it. I truly believe that Obama was elected because the economy crashed. That was the only reason he got into office. And since then things are far from fixed but the Senate and House seem absorbed with the health care thing. I would guess that the average American would say in large numbers that economy issues still need attention and the government is not taking care of what they were elected to do. Is universal health care going to create or save jobs?

Update:

Seems like I struck a nerve ...

The money/time/effort being put into this health care garbage should be put towards creating jobs so people can buy their own insurance. Giving more handouts sure as hell isn't going to fix anything.

What's wrong with our so-called health care system is a subset of what's wrong with our economy. You are correct in your premise that the economy should take precedence here.

However, I believe that Obama has been told that he will not have a snowball's chance in Hell of getting reelected if he does what should be done to bring the economy back up to where it should be able to produce enough jobs for all those who want to work. I mean, he's putting wanting to get reelected above fixing the economy. How much support would that get him in 2011?

    They are not mutually exclusive.

And... an Administration being comprised of many, many people who are split into different areas of specialization, can do more than one thing at a time.

To wit, within the Administration, the President's economic team and the Treasury Department get tasked with developing economic policy and the studying the impacts of other policy initiatives.

External to the Government, the Fed determines monetary policy (and lately stuff way beyond that like buying up worthless mortgage backed securities).

This specialization applies to Congress as well.

If the stimulus worked so well, which no one can prove it did even with fictitious congressional districts and job numbers why are the Democrats talking about another one.

You would think someone in the White House would be smart enough to pick up a phone and ask the Clerk of the House how many Congressional districts there are in some states.

It's all important. Just so happens healthcare has been a big debate for the last few months & the most talked about since August.

The economy is being worked on it's just that you only hear about all the negatives & not the positives. Yes the unemployment rate is up 10%, but it has been steadily dropping for 2 years now. Doesn't mean their not trying to correct it.

It's about power. If they really knew and cared about the economy it would be fixed right now. Instead they are trying to control the economy which as you can see isn't helping anything.

  • It's not, but between cap and trade and health care 0bama is trying to gain broad power over all Americans.

Its not and the Democrats are going to get their nads ripped off in 2010 and 2012...4 months ago 58% of the people said the bad economy was the Republicans fault and that number is down to 36% now...I guess they ain't buying Obama's whining that its all Bush's fault anymore.

War is 10 times more expensive than the healthcare bill.

maybe we should bring our troops home from their illegal war in Iraq faster but health care is going to HELP fix the economy, dont you get that. In fact, what did the pubs do to the economy. Oh, yeah, I remember, put the whole world economy on a fast track toward demise. That is what they did. So, I think you might want to listen to the Man whom is fixing the NEOCONS problems.

Because union lobbyists and trial lawyers don't get rich by fixing the economy. Sure, they skimmed a lot from that moronic "stimulus" idea, but nothing like they'll get under this corrupt health scam.
