I can not hear any sound from my desktop pc since i upgraded from windows xp to windows 7?

no sound on start up and shut down

no windows sound

no sound while playing music or movies

also no problem shown in device manager

just noticed a very strange thing. when i open "sound" in control panel and configure speakers from there, i hear only the test sound and that too only when i select 5.1 or 7.1 speakers and that too only when testing the left and right surround speakers not during the main speakers testing.

i have only normal stereo speakers and headphones that i use.

what should i do?

You should go to the web site of the soundcard manufacturer and download the latest drivers for your device.

Reinstall the drivers and make sure that your device is compatible with Windows 7.

You should be able to find out what device you have through device manager.

    Hi ali f

Visit the Windows 7 Compatibility Center here: http://bit.ly/4uZDu2 --you can check to see if your audio device is compatible with Windows 7. If it isn’t, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to get it to work by installing the drivers in compatibility mode. Here is a link to a procedure for this http://bit.ly/B0tCG .
