Where can I buy feeder mice?
I want to feed some to my ferret. Yeah it seems kind of cruel, but I feed my turtle live fish and snakes eat live mice, etc. Hate to post this in the rodent section, but I think ferrets are widely considered rodents. So can i buy some at Petco? I see mice on sale but i really just want cheap mice not like $10 mice just so I can give my ferret a snack. Where do snake keepers get their mice?

There are a lot of things you need to consider before you feed a live rodent to your ferret.
1. You shouldn't even be feeding live rodents to your snakes. You should be feeding pre-killed frozen/thawed rodents to your snakes. Feeding mice alive to your snakes is very inhumane for the mouse, and it is very dangerous to your snake. Expert snake breeders and handlers stopped feeding live rodents to their herps nearly 10 years ago. Not only is it safer for the snake, it's easier and cheaper too.
2. A ferret is not a rodent. Not even close. A ferret is a mustelid, a member of the weasel family. Yes, they eat rodents in the wild, but your ferret is not a wild animal. Your ferret's digestive system is used to processing commercially prepared food and feeding him a mouse can make him sick. Lots of people are starting to feed a prey-model diet to their ferrets (which means all raw meats and whole prey carcasses) but it's not something you can just do for a treat. If you are interested in switching your ferret to a raw diet, check out this article:

3. And obviously it would be a very bad idea to give your ferret a live mouse. If he has never eaten one before, he definitely isn't going to know how to kill it properly. And in the process of playing with it he might get bitten, which could be deadly if the wound gets infected.
Anyone who is caring for their snakes properly by feeding them pre-killed foods usually orders them from mouse suppliers like rodentpro.com
I worked in Petco for a long time. During the time I worked there, the mice in the store died all the time from diseases like respiratory infections, e. coli, and SDA. They were also constantly being treated for things like internal and external parasites like mites. These problems happen in all Petco stores because all Petcos get their animals from the same places. Who wants to feed diseased mice to their snakes or ferrets? Your ferret and snakes are much better off eating food that comes from people who specialize in snakes, not local pet stores who don't give a crap.

I get my mice for about $2 a piece. Check around all your local pet stores, they're generally not expensive animals. And yes, I feed them to my ferrets and they eat them! Feeding ferrets live prey is not only natural, but it is great mental stimulation and provide great health benefits! Mice are like the perfect little nutritional package for a ferret. Think about it, ferrets wouldn't eat kibble in the wild, and fresh whole prey are a much healthier alternative. I think what you're doing is great! Just be aware, when feeding mice, most ferrets don't like to eat the intestines, so you might find those lying around... lol!
You may want to start small, with pinkies and work your way up to larger mice. An unexperienced hunter may take too long to kill or not even know what to do! I feed my ferrets their mice in the bathtub. So I don't have any mice escapees, and the cleanup is easy.
You could also try starting with pre-killed mice, which you can order from www.miceonice.com. If your ferret isn't interested in eating it, and I know this sounds gross, but split the belly open and stuff with their favorite liquid treat(Ferretone, fish oil, lax, etc.)

look “Dan” i think you post this under rodents because you wanted to be an assholé, and i think you know your ferret most likely is not going to eat it, but if you are being serous yes you can get them at pet co or pet-smart it makes no difference where you get them and are all going to suffer a painful death!
well good luck with whatever you do!:)
