The 19nth amendment was important but many changes happened for women during the world wars, women went into factories and earned their own pay and discovered their true capabilities.
The women started their push for equality in the 1700's. Abigail Adams was speaking for women even back then.
There was a woman surgeon during the civil war awarded the Medal of Honor. Throughout our history there have been women fighting for equality.
Women actually had been able to vote before the 19nth amendment in certain states, but was later discontinued for New Jersey for instance stopped women voting in 1807. They had been allowed to vote from the time of their constituition 1776.
But I think the biggest factor for women when the entered the workforce during the wars and since the WWII they have become more of a force in the labor force.
They had the 60's and bra burnings, and the final passage of the Equal Rights is still waiting passage by 3 more states so it can become the next amendment to the US Constitution.

I know it sounds racist and sexist, but as a country we would be well served to repeal the 15th and 19th amendments. Because of the way blacks were treated in the beginning of our country, there are still many who have a chip on their shoulder. So many feel like they are owed something. This is evident by the fact that they consistently vote for the party who is going to give them the most. Women on the other hand, far to often make decisions based on how they feel in their heart, when in reality they should make them based on logic and reason. This quality is fine for a mother, but not for running a country. I have tried on several occasions to find the correlation between the numbers of social programs that were in existence before women had the right to vote and the speed with which social programs were adopted after the 19th amendment was adopted. While I haven't found concrete evidence, I am quite certain social programs ballooned rather quickly after the 19th amendment was ratified. I know my answer isn't politically correct, but if we are talking about what would be more conducive to a strong, independent, self-sufficient country, I cannot help but believe that we would be better off without these two amendments.

Well, for starters the 19th amendment helped to exalt women to some of the same freedoms as men. This was just a start of the women's right movement which resulted in more women joining the work force, sexual freedom, etc. It also resulted in more women becoming involved in and being elected to positions of power---such as Hillary Clinton, Sandra Day O'Conner, Sonia Sotomayor, Sarah Palin. As a result you see more womenn involved in not just the government, but many formerly male dominated fields--think Sally Ride (astronaut), Danica Patrick (race car driver), women in the military, etc.

Now, many women's rights movements were halted, causing much turmoil to die. Also, we had a larger amount and range of voters. This made it so that the whole country's voice was heard.
IT affected society in numerous ways i.e. it gave a new identity to women in the US giving them an opinion that now matters such as Oprah.

womens rights have grown so much since that.
look at other nations where women don't the same rights that we do. some of them aren't allowed to even leave their own houses without their husbands permission. if women never got the right to vote, us women would have very little to no rights. arranged marriage, not having jobs, etc..
