My desktop computer keeps shutting down unexpectedly?
Well it usually does when I'm playing games (I play Sims 2 and Zoo Tycoon if that matters). And it's just about 10 minutes into the game every time it does this. But it's really frustrating because it's not like the games have auto-save, so I end up losing all of my work :( Is it something to do with the spyware doctor? Is that blocking it? If so is there a way i can take it off while I'm playing my installed games?
--Any help is appriciated!!
--Thanks :)

Turn off all other programs before entering the game. Otherwise your computer will overheat and turn off to prevent the hard drive or other key elements from melting from the intense heat. This means turning off those anti-virus programs that tax your system. I would recommend also disconnecting from the internet to prevent yourself from leaving yourself open to viruses and worms while your anti-virus is down. Other wise I would recommend purchasing a new fan for your systems. List of top fans and cooling systems: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/Can-t-Touch-Th...

It's probably not a software problem causing your laptop to shut down unexpectedly. If there are applications which don't get along, it would cause a program to crash. Your laptop would lock up and not accept any input or the game would shut down or you would get a blue screen of death.
A laptop shutting down on its own while you are playing games is almost certainly caused by the CPU overheating. Games with 3-D graphics need a lot of processing power, and on a laptop that power comes from the CPU. It needs to work hard to run the game, heats up beyond the safe temperature level, and the computer shuts down in order to save your hardware.
You can try a USB cooling pad with built-in fans to help a little bit. You can try to blow out all of the fans and vents with compressed air to get any dust out. If those simple fixes don't work, I'm afraid you need to either replace the laptop or get a desk top for games.

As mentioned, it really sounds like overheating of your CPU.
Can you recreate the problem (try playing a song in repeat using Media player and starting one of your problem games).
There are prgrams you can download for free that monitor your CPU temp.
I had the same problem whenever I played C&C Generals or occasionally playing media player and doing other stuff. (AMD XP2000+ CPU, fine for everything except certain games and WMP)
A temporary fix (or test) is taking the sides of your PC case off, if possible, a permanant fix is getting a better PC with at least a dual core!

Your graphics card or CPU may be overheating. That's especially likely if this only happens when playing games. Time to check the fans and blow the dust out!

check for viruses, and clean it.
IF the problem still persist after a clean up, maybe its a hardware problem, a bad graphics chip, which is overheating and turning the pc off. Or maybe the power supply, which is starting to malfunction after load is applied(games)

seems such as you forgot to apply warmth sink paste. honestly you have gotten too small of a warmth sink or the fan has had airborne dirt and dust assemble in it and it has lost it is efficency. additionally the warmth sink would have come unfastened. there's a thermal shutdown on maximum motherboards which will close the cpu down whilst it gets too warm.
