Yes, I think we should be worried about the violence along the border. It is possible for the cartels to take over their entire country and their money. The Mexican Police do pretty good in the Vacation Spots. They have armed militia's at most resort towns. They have some of the most beautiful beaches. But it is the border areas where most of the crime is erupting and we give them money but the cartel still pays better. Then as less visitors go their for fear of the vigilantes they lose a lot of money then they take the trek up North to the U.S. These people bring disease, their lifestyle which is not good, their drugs and some to work. It doesn't quite equal to what we have to pay in exchange for some cheap labor. Now we have Health Care exploding, all social services are drained and these should be for the Legals of the U.S. but we have lost our cajones so we will be just The North American Union. Just great huh! Taxes will be hefty for people who work to pay for those uneducated and can not work.

There have been nine thousand murders in Ciudad Juarez this year. Nine thousand. That's higher than the population of many small towns. A couple of months ago, the city buried a whole bunch of them in a mass grave because they were unclaimed and the morgue needed the space.
Five thousand teenage girls have gone missing from the maquiladoras. 450 bodies have been found. It is theorized that the rest of the bodies will not be found because they have been cut up and the organs have been sold on the black market - something the former drug pedalers are doing to make the same fortune they made before, maintaining their lavish lifestyles.
This bloodshed is spilling over the border into El Paso, Brownsville, Nogales, Douglas and San Diego. If we don't do something about it soon, we're going to be more worried about our own soil than Afghani soil.

hugs!!! i think of Mexico is a lost reason, no longer remember what we do or do no longer do. it incredibly is particularly corrupt and it incredibly is extremely like the wild west down there. yet..I do agree that out insane anti-drug regulations have made the drug commerce/business enterprise very risky. I have not have been given any situation legalizing particular drugs and easily imprison the confusing center sellers, no longer the consumers- it may herald lots necessary tax gross sales, and open up detention center area for actual criminals like molesters, murderers, rapists... And could shrink down maximum of the crim on the two factors of the border- yet they could locate something else to smuggle and likewise there's a gang custom and custom that could desire to be very confusing to break

I personally spent a few months there this summer. You wouldn't believe how worried the locals are about the fact that the US media is depicting Mexico as a place where you will inevitably be killed by a cartel or contract swine flu. Many of them believe that we are trying to drown their economy (tourist based, in most areas) so they will be reliant on the U.S.

Future tense?
If Mexico was not already a failed state you would not have drug gangs running the streets and people running to the USA.

Maybe Mexico would do better if Americans stop snorting tons of the white stuff every month?
And stop selling/sending state-of-the -art weapons down there as part payment?

In theory it would be beneficial because it might curb illegal immigration, but we simply no longer have the money or resources to be the "nanny" to the rest of the world.
