21 to buy and get a foid card for handgun. There are provisions for your parents to sign and take responsibility for you....but, read here for all the laws. Concealed is a big no in your anti-gun state.

If you over 14, have a foid card, taken proper training. You are able to possess a handgun. At this time concealed carry is illegal in Illinois. You can carry it in a properly storage case. Make sure you follow ALL the rules and ALWAYS be safe. You will not be able to buy a handgun until you are 21 but if we properly handle guns someday “adults” can purchase firearms in a reasonable manner.

A HANDGUN IS A CONCEALABLE FIREARM. Some would say any gun you could conceal is a concealed firearm but it mainly means handguns.
Hell it's illegal for any minor to own a gun period. The only way a minor can have a gun around is if their parents bought it and keep it (at least till the minor is 18.)

Any firearm that you can stick in your pants or under your coat is basically a concealable firearm. Anyhow, I would work on getting hold of a FOID card. Once you have that in hand you're legal to buy firearms but you still must obey state and federal laws.

Here is the legal definition:
Definitions: any firearm with a barrel less than 16 inches in length, measured from the face of the bolt or standing breech.
Since a rifle or shotgun can't legally have a barrel less than 16", "concealable firearm" means a handgun. If you had a sawed-off shotgun or rifle, you would also be breaking this law, but the consequences would be minor compared to having the illegal shotgun or rifle.
