POLL: What is your favorite charity, and why?

The Heffer Project.

It gives people animals that they can then grow and breed into herds and lift themselves out of poverty on their own terms.

I donate money to them and I encourage others to do so.

I also give to the food bank regularly.

I admire you for donating your time and energy.

Thank you. I might be inspired to do something more too.

Traditionally the U. S. Navy enlisted men have chosen to support the Florence Critterdon home for unwed mothers. It has always seemed like a good idea to me. There was a time when the Red Cross was not in good favor with the Military (a bad reputation dies slowly) and I believe the unwed mothers help group became the military favorite then.

I don't really have a favorite. I tend to just randomly give when I can. I've done food and school supply drives this year, and donated money to food related charities... and there's a coat drive coming up.

Unfortunately - my resources are pretty limited. I should see if there's a way I can donate my time instead.

Make A Wish- who grant wishes to terminally ill children.

It saddens me to hear that kids are on their deathbed. My cousin died from cancer when she was 7 years old, but the rest of her time was spent in pain, not doing something she wanted to do. I give as much as I can whenever I can. If these kids are going to die, then they should live life while they still can. And every once in awhile I will volunteer at my local chapter for any assistance they might need.

Operation HomeFront. It is an organization that helps military families get Christmas for their kids. My husband and I received it the first two years he was in the military and it was such a blessing. I buy a toy every time I walk into work. You can too if you have a Dollar Tree nearby and hey it's only a dollar.

As a former member of the armed forces that served over seas with the 1st Marine Division. I always give to the veterans as well as the toys for tots run by the U.S.M.C.

Medecin Sans Frontieres.

Has been for a long time - I think it takes extraordinary courage and strength to do what they do simply to help people who cannot help themselves. The number of lives they have saved is probably essentially uncountable.

I support them the only real way I can - they have my bank details, they get their regular donation.

I just donated this morning to the local Birth Choice Chapter. I give because I believe in their cause.

I support a local charity called Winter Warmth, that buys winter clothing for underprivileged kids. 100% of the money raised goes to this--no "administrative" fees.

I also support the local food bank
