Of Melting, cooling and reheating metal.?

So I I were to melt down some misc scrap metal and pour it into a mold. Would it help/hurt in any way to repeatedly heat/cool the metal?

Repeated heating to close to melting and banging a metal with a hammer helps the metal form a more regular (stronger) lattice and removes impurities that also makes the metal brittle. Think blacksmiths, katana (samurai) swords It is called forging or annealing (try googling these terms).
