Same thing happened to me when my first was born. I did all the paperwork at the hospital, but they forgot to sign it, or never sent it, or something. I called after six weeks and they told me it could take up to 12 weeks, well after 12 weeks, still nothing, and only then did I find out the paperwork was never filed. I had to take the original birth certificate, plus his most recent vaccination record to prove his identity, to teh SS office and apply for a card, then waited another six weeks or so for the card to arrive.

Call the local SS office and ask them how to get it. You can probably go down there and get a print out of his number until the card arrives.

Same thing happened when I had my daughter. I guess they forgot because it came a week after I called them about it.

I don't remember getting this from the hospital, I had to go down to the SS office and they issued him one that day. All I had to do was bring a noterized copy of the birth certificate. It's free!

it should only take 8 weeks but if you want it right away you can go to your local social security office and get one there.

We had our kids fairly quickly and when I went to replace my own, I got it within a couple of weeks.
