Believers & atheists -- what's the best "spiritual" thing you've done in the past week?
A second question along with the first: what's the best thing that has happened to you, spiritually speaking?
I imagine many people with answer this question with comments about orgasms or chocolate cookies, or maybe with descriptions of orgasms AND chocolate cookies. And that's okay.
But does anybody else here in R&S have a great "spiritual" experience that you're like to share?
lovely green eyes -- why do you write that good works or good deeds are "useless?"
I understand that you think good works are useless in terms of getting YOU into heaven. Okay - for you, let's say they are useless in that context.
But they're not actually useless to God or the world if they result in helping out some other person, are they?
I mean, what the Good Samaritan did for the man he found on the road wasn't "useless" for the man who was helped, I don't think.
But of course you don't have to think that helping strangers is the most important think you can do spiritually. It's a free country; you can believe what you like. :-) .

Worked all day for the past two days on a fundraiser for Burmese orphans. Also personally donated $500 to the cause.
Best thing that has happened to me spiritually is going to a Zen monastery in September for a 3 day retreat.

I realized that I still harbor some resentment toward Christianity from my days as a Christian. There is still that wound that needed to be healed. There was a series of conversations with my brother-in-law, my wife, and my sister-in-law in which we discussed the church, and God, etc.
I came to realize that my own relationship with God is one of not knowing. I simply don't know what God is, if he/she/it is out there, or what its nature is if it is. Understanding this non-knowing and accepting it, I could look back on my life for the past few years and see just how faithfully I was practicing the teaching of Jesus, even as a Buddhist. My resentment faded, and I sort of came full circle--back to my roots as a former Christian.
Now this last bit of resentment is healing, and this to me is the purpose of spirituality. It is about healing and making peace with oneself and everyone and everything.

Sitting in the sun on a park bench while my husband, son, daughter-in-law and second son played soccer in the park. Watching them frolic in such a beautiful place was as purely spiritual as it gets. Perhaps the only thing more so was joining the play.

I worship my Lord and Savior with all my heart and all my soul and all my mind and all my strength. And offer my life as LIVING sacrifice onto Him, who saved me.
Anything else you may do, qualifies as WORK and, it is, thus, useless.
I have spiritual fulfilment every day, because I live in the presence of my Lord and my God - Jesus Christ - who is ever SO faithful.
Works are worthless because they will never help you to be saved, or even to continue in your salvation - lest these works come out of obedience by the power of the Holy Ghost.

I was able to truly forgive a good Friend.
And I have a problem with forgiveness.
It doesn't come easy for me, and I know it.
This Friend is helping me, in ways she doesn't even realize, to be a better person.
And for that, I am very thankful.

I saw him whist I was winging while drifting off to sleep. Since then its been bad but I feel protected. Don't help much, but when i'm scared, I sometimes think of the picture of him that I saw in a glance, as I said when I was moaning. His palms was open, and he had bronze coloured hair, beard and eyes, with looks to make you fall.

I thought that the guy I love died. Long story about why I thought he died, but that's what I thought. I prayed to God every night and said "God, wherever _______ is, even if he's dead please take care of him." Then yesterday, I went to church and saw _______ sitting there.
Best moment of my life and I just can't stop thanking God.

Being myself is my form of spirituality. Being myself and doing the things that excite me that I enjoy is the biggest spiritual "rush" I can ever get.
