I have no idea what the hot toy is this year, but it probably is something electronic. I remember wanting Barbie. She had short bouffant platinum blonde hair. I also remember wanting Chatty Cathy and a Tressie doll. The year I got a Ken doll I was excited too. No more lonely Barbie, although I do recall many altercations between the two. Ken use to come over to Barbie's Dream House and plunk down on the couch to watch tv all weekend, and so there the trouble began, but look how many years they stuck it out together before going their separate ways! (I think Barbie had a thing for GI Joe going on the side.) She loved a man in uniform. lol

Not sure what the hot toy is this year. I'd venture to guess it would be anything interactive. The toy I just had to have was my Chatty Kathy. I realize now how my mom scrimped and saved to get me that doll. Coming from a family with 4 kids and a farm family, money was always tight. We usually got 3 gifts each and were on top of the world. We'd get the one toy we wanted and the other two gifts would be of a sensible nature like clothes. Mom usually got a game for the whole family.

I wanted the nurses kit. It was a blue case that had all the things a nurse would need even sugar pills that I think I had eaten all of them by the day after Christmas. I use to wear one of my Dad's old white shirts and roll up the sleeves and made a nurses hat out of one of his big white handkerchiefs. I wanted to be a nurse more than anything in the world. However, by the time I was 12 I fainted at the sight of blood and realized that I was not nurse material. It was good I realized this because I still get sick when others are sick. Having children of my own helped with this problem because they were always bleeding some where and I could take care of them but I still knew I was not meant to be a nurse.

It's some hamster thing. I don't know exactly what it's called. I think it's electronic.

Edit: Found this article in Time: (excerpt) Sounds cute, and it's cheap. That's refreshing!

You always figured that a rodent who drives his own car would be able to withstand the recession, right? As retailers ramp up for the all-important holiday shopping season, at least the toy stores know that they have a hit on their hands. Fuzzy, electronic toy hamsters called Zhu Zhu Pets are flying off the shelves at major outlets like Walmart and Toys "R" Us. Demand for the pets is so high that Zhu Zhus, which retail for $8 at Walmart, are going for $60 on secondary-market sites like Amazon.com and eBay.com. The hamsters, which have names like Mr. Squiggles, Pipsqueak and Num Nums, scoot around and coo like real pets. Kids can add accessories like a car, a skateboard and a wheel to their own little hamster world — without the inevitable mess or traumatic death. "This is the hottest toy of the year," says Gerald Storch, chairman and CEO of Toys "R" Us. "There's absolutely no doubt about it."

yep I think it is the wii----I thought my friend was being rude when she was talking about it ! The toy I could not live without is my lap top. Got it when I had to go to hospital for a month. There I learnt about the internet and wireless broadband as some hospitals have this facility. Taught my mother card games which she loved as could impress her friends with her computer know how as she was in her 80's.oh oh it's already 2am is this really living ? Yep at it's best !

Every body I know is getting Wii for there families. I even heard it from a little bird that all of our kids are chipping in and getting one for my husband and I. That will be interesting.

I remember the first Furby craze years back, and I had to have one. I ended up with several and they were quite fun. I still have a few, but they no longer work. I see there are hamsters that are special this year.

My sister and I wanted twin Tiny Tears dolls when we were little. The Christmas I was eleven I wanted, and got, my first pair of pointe shoes. When I opened the box, they were pink and pretty with the ribbons on them. I was doing ballet then and it was all I wanted. Boy, was I excited!

My four year old granddaughter wants that hamster toy and one of those easy bake ovens. My 6 year old grandson is saying he wants GI Joe stuff.

What do you know, for once he didn't ask for Spiderman stuff.

Edit: And both kids want that Hungry Hippo game.

    An electronic hamster.

All I can ever remember wanting was a bicycle. Mom kept saying no because I'd kill myself. No, no, no. Then, I got one for Christmas. It was an older bike, Mom had paid $5 for it, and my big brother had spray painted it fire engine red. I was such a happy kid!
