isn't a communion wafer cracker just a placebo?

an imitation of a real sacrament like peyote or teonanacatl?

i eat a cracker and feel nothing.

i eat a mushroom and feel the imminent presence of the divine.

you go to church and talk about god.

i go to the teepee and speak with god.

Update:

look buddy a cracker is not God's flesh. it's a cracker. man made it.

a mushroom comes from the creator on a wind beset that no one sees. this is the true flesh of God.

teonanacatl; (n) nahuatl language. literally "God's flesh"

Update 2:

LOl @ law n order. of course its a real experience. your conjecture that brain chemistry denotes a "real" versus imagined experience is foolish. every single experience is a result of a change in brain chemistry. doesn't make it any less real. also such experiences have real implications for the persons daily life and thought process. I saw a family come together after an alcoholic father lef tfor 4 years and came back for a peyote meeting. that was "real".

"mean that the experiences ones goes through upon consumption are 'real'. "

i dare you to eat mushrooms and jump off a bridge. it wont hurt you according to your logic. lol if you believe experiences one goes through upon consumption aren't real. tell yourself that as you hit the ground SMACK!

It's not a cracker or a wafer. It's the body of Christ.

A communion wafer is meant to be symbolic, as is the act of consuming the body and blood of a supposedly divine being. Unfortunately, the church is often too literal in its interpretation of ancient customs. As such, the wafer has become a placebo of sorts, with many Catholics and Anglicans claiming to have religious experiences upon consuming them... in fact, these feelings of ecstasy and divine communication are caused by chemicals being released in the brain based on the expectation of a ecstatic event.

Peyote and shrooms are hallucinogens. They may not be placebos, but that does not mean that the experiences ones goes through upon consumption are 'real'. Hallucinogens and deliriums change brain chemistry, which alters the brain's ability to function and interpret reality.

Although the means with which these sacraments play upon the brain are different, the end result is the same -- a sense of divinity brought on by altered brain chemistry. The only difference is that peyote/mushroom induced experiences are far more intense.

That being said, if the experience of eating a communion wafer is just as important in bringing peace to one's life as that of consuming peyote, how can you say that your practice is superior? Likewise, how can a Christian claim that their methods are superior to yours if you've found joy in what you're doing? Everyone follows their own path in life based on their upbringing, their experiences, their own biochemistry and so on. Live and let live, friend.

Source(s): Edit: You know as well as I do that I was referring to the hallucinations induced by drugs, not the emotional or physical impacts. The final portion of my answer made this pretty damn obvious. Jumping off a cliff is an entirely different matter than believing that you're talking to god. The former is an external stimulus taking place in the physical world, the latter is in internal creation, having no bearing in physical reality. Your entire rebuttal is nothing more than a red herring. My point was that the emotional impact of either experience can be just as profound, even if what you thought you say or heard wasn't real. Neither is superior to the other. You needn't be so hostile over a minor difference in opinion. I wasn't attacking you, merely offering my thoughts on the matter. How old are you?

you eat a mushroom and you are tripping delusional style. Eating the flesh made word, the bread of life, helps us remember that god dwells within us as us. Its that simple. Certainly tripping does open doors to many thoughts and questions but, at the end of the day we have all the answers within.

the wafer is just a symbol of what happened to jesus. it doesn't have any special powers it just help put dramatic emphasis on the story. The pastor always says this is jesus body that will be broken eat the all of it. he wants you to feel like you are there the next time you eat it picture jesus in pain and his whole body breaking in agony
