Germanic Neopaganism/Asatru and gays?
Can someone tell me how Germanic Neopaganism/Asatru, by group or majority, considers homosexuality? I've heard that it's both accepting and really homophobic... does it depend on the "type" of Asatru (like Odinism, Theodism, etc.) that is in question?
Some sort of guide for this would be good for me!
Thanks heaps!

answer: depends on the group. Groups range from very liberal, bordering on Wicca-Tru (gag) to Neo-Nazis hiding behind the Heathen label.
Typically, most are tolerant to accepting. Those that aren't are usually intolerant of others as well (immigrants, non-Caucasians, gays/lesbians, Jews, etc)

The Troth is very gay-friendly. http://www.thetroth.org/ There is a list for gay Heathens on Yahoogroup: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/asatru-q
Here's my own take on the matter. http://home.earthlink.net/~jordsvin/Asatru/Lesbiga... I am a gay man in a 21 year relationship and a Heathen for 15 years. I've had minimal problems over my being gay, but at the same time have learned to choose my company, Heathen and otherwise, carefully. Here is an article on the subject by my Seidhr-teacher; I highly recommend it as well:

It's usually decided on a kindred by kindred (small, private group) basis. Best thing to do is be bold and just ask a group up front where they stand. :)
To the best of my knowledge, the most welcoming major Asatru organization is the Troth, which specifically states in its Bylaws that "Discrimination on the basis of race, gender, ethnic origin, or sexual orientation shall not be practiced by the Troth or any affiliated group, whether in membership decisions or in conducting any of its activities."

It depends on the region.. .. as I am Pagan.. my parents are from germany.. and that is where my roots come from .. (note.. i am not Neopagan..).. ... we are very accepting of homosexuality. as I myself am Bi..
Tho some groups are homophobic.. thus it also depends on the group...
there is no "rule" or "guide"... at least not to Paganism or Neopaganism.. as it is not specified in any teaching of ours ...

Gunnora, who runs the Viking Answer Lady website, wrote a lengthy and well-researched article on the topic. I strongly recommend it and the website.
