I need to build an earthquake machine. Any ideas?
Not like Tesla's though. I don't want to sense earthquakes, I want to make one so that I could build a model house and see the effects.

There are vibration machines that you can rent time on. They have a platform about 10' by 10' that is connected to a very large driver, like a big speaker coil, and a very powerful amplifier (thousands of watts). I used it for testing a large piece of equipment, about a like a relay rack full of gear, for possibility of vibration damage from shipping in a truck.
So this brings up the idea of getting a big woofer or subwoofer speaker, removing the cone material, and attaching the coil somehow to a small platform. You can get subwoofers complete with a powerful amp for a few hundred bucks. Get one that goes down to DC.
Now you need to get a waveform generator that reproduces an earthquake type signal.
