Urgent Snake cage question: heating pad?
Hey guys, I got a 22" ball python, and I have a question about using an under tank heater. Where should the pad be placed: directly in the middle, near/under his hide rock, or somewhere else? With my heatlamp placed in the middle of the tank, my thermostat shows 85*, and the heat pad is currently on the left, with half of the hide rock covering the heat pad. Should this be changed??
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Heat mat should cover 1/3 of the cage...one edge....with a hide over it. There should be another hide on the cool side for him. You don't need a heat pad and a heat mat but if you do, place all heat sources on one side. Thermostat should be controlling the temps and 85 should be sufficient. The thermostat probe should be placed directly over the heat pad under the hide to be certain that it's not getting too hot under the hide.

I've had 4 snakes, including a ball python, and I have always kept the heating pad on one side of the cage with a hide over it that way one side of the cage is cooler for them

its completely fine where it is, just make sure that the other end of the cage is cooler in case he wants to cool off.
