dog problems, help needed A.S.A.P.?
Story is my dog got left outside in Rhode Island weather (12/4/09- 7am 12/5/00), NOONE! told me oh let the dog in shes outside, everyone that left the house or came home during the day saw her outside didnt mention anything. I didnt even let her outside damnit! now my poor dog is paying the price, she is 12 years old with arthritis in her left-hind leg. She has puked up the tiny bit of food and water i have given her. The good sign is she wants to eat/drink, but it wont stay down. Did her stomach flip?? Another thing too is she cant get up, i have had to carry her and ley her down myself, could it be from her arthritis and slowly ailing hips?? I have been laying next to her giving her body heat and 110% attention since 7 a.m., is there anything else i can do because we cant afford a vet bill, the offices are also closed on the weekends, and the pet hospital charges double on the weekends...if worse comes to worse i have chosen some expensive items to sell in order to afford the vet bill.
update**
so, one sign that has me positive is her mood. I have never seen her depressed...ever. She is such a happy dog even now. When i get up she wags her tail, or she will even just look at me and start wagging her tail randomly. She is keeping food down well now. I purchased some glucosamine tablets for the time being. My mother will be helping me pay the vet bill thank god.
The negatives are, she can walk but with much difficulty, no vet until Monday, and her breathing sounds weird at times, but still pretty stable.
well she is a tough ol' gal, reminds me of Marley from the movie Marley and me just minus the bad behavior lol.

I think I would be getting some cash from those who left her out as well as selling some items. As most have said, she is going to need to see the vet. The fact she is taking the food and water is good. Make sure she continues to drink water. Her system is most likely in shock as Kelly said. And the heating pad is a good idea for the arthritic leg, but I would make sure I put a blanket or something between the pad and the leg And, also as Kelly said, not for over 15 minutes at a time, then off for 15 to 30 minutes.
Also, a lot of vets are open on Saturday Morning and will not charge you an Emergency Fee so your best bet would be to go ahead and call now. If you can talk with the vet, he may actually tell you to give her something at home until next week and give you the proper dosage, or he may want to see her first. The only way to find out is to bite the bullet and call. The medications you buy over the counter for arthritis, such as Glucosamine do little to help the immediate acute pain.
I do understand how you feel as I have an older dog who does fine unless he gets too cold. Even though you did not cause this, you know she needs some help, so I would call and talk to the vet. This is something that will require on-going treatment so many times they will let you charge. Like I said, I would be looking to some people who were supposed to be responsible and left my dog out in the cold. It is hard to trust even those you care about with your dog. Too many just do not understand or just do not care.
I wish you the best of luck, and remember, this is totally treatable. The vet will have to do an x-ray and make sure what is going on. The medications do work wonders. I have a 12 year old dog that I was thinking the worst about because I could see he was hurting. I took him to the vet and he does very well on the medications. He is actually running and playing quite well. He is thoroughly enjoying life again.
Please edit your question and let us know how your dog is. I will keep you and your girl in my thoughts and prayers.
EDIT: To your additions: The eating is a wonderful sign!!! Sometimes when a dog is in pain, their breathing does sound erratic and if you know she has arthritis in the leg... you know she is in pain. What you want to do is exactly what you are doing. Watch her very closely and keep her warm until you can get her to a vet. As for the breathing. She may have gotten some infection and cold in the weather. Most folks do not have a stethoscope laying around like me :) (I am a nurse) so put your hand gently just under her front left paw where you should be able to "feel" her heartbeat. Just make sure it is regular and rhythmic ... most know how a heart sounds. So long as the heart beat is normal, the breathing is most likely in the response to the pain. Glucosamine is not going to do a whole lot for the immediate acute pain, but it will help to maintain her for now. And I know you will have her at the vet front and center Monday. I really wish they ahd been there for you today. I know how hard it is when there is not exactly a medical emergency, but you still want her out of pain. Actually, the best thing you can do is keep her as still as possible so, the fact she is resting so long as she is eating, is a good thing. Again, keep her warm...and please let us know. My emailo is open if you cannot post an edit here. I have been thinking about you all day and hoping all was well.

It is most likely the arthritis and you have every reason to be furious. You will need to take her to the vet, but there are a few things you can do until you get her there that will make her more comfortable.
If you have a hating pad that you can put on low, that might make her joints feel better. BUT be careful as she is a senior and you do not want to burn her. Do not leave it on for over 15 minute intervals. My dad does this with his dog who has arthritis. She still works outside some though and these people need to be stomped! Anyway. Call your vet and see what you can work out. Many will work out a payment schedule on something like this. There are several pills she can take that will help her with this, and the vet's will sometimes prescribe aspirin in extremely low doses (No Tylenol). But you need the vet to tell you how much to give her as too much can hurt her. Over her very small amounts of food. It could be pain and the shock of what happened that is causing her to act this way.
Do keep her warm until you can get the vet on the phone.
I hope she does ok and make sure you let us know.

It could be her arthritis, she is cold, anxious and you need to stop making her feel worse....her pack leader is stressed, fearful and praising her for being stressed and fearful and not well, all weak energy which makes her feel worse because if pack leader is stressed then she has to be as well.
So drinking water, put in a spoon of powdered glucose( cheap and available from the chemist), nice soft bed with a blanket over her keep her warm and dry , boil some plain rice for her to eat if she wants it and only a tiny amount , just a spoonful, put the TV on or the radio with soft music and keep a close eye on her..........however get on as you would do normally....if she is keeping the rice down after a couple of hours add a little cooked chicken.
You then need to decide of she needs the vet or is OK
'Neem oil' is a good immune system booster, A 'Bioflow collar' ( online) stops arthritic pain, 'Yarrow Complex' is anti inflammatory/anti arthritic. Vitamin E will keep muscles built up, which protects their arthritic joints) muscles they start to lose when dogs are getting old

Heat her up. Heating blanket, ect... At a Local Farm store, ect... Go there quick. Buy a 10 lbs. bag of milk replacent. It will cost about ten dollars... They mix 4 tablespoons, or whatever it recommeneds on the bag in with dog food. When it's mixed with the dog food add 2 to 3 cups of hot water. Stir. Give it to imideatly. Don't use regular milk, it is bad for dogs. Keep her wrapped in lots of blankets, lose enough, that if she gets to warm she can get out. She could be suffering from hypothermia. Good Luck! Try to hold her over the weekend, but if you can't get her in there a.s.a.p. If she does well I still recommened taking her into the vet on Monday or Tuesday, to make sure she doesn't need any medications.

Yeah. Just sell your expensive items and get her to the vet. I understand. Its kind of hard when you cant afford something that is really special to you. I hope she gets Better. (Also remember she is 12 years old so possible the x.x sign) (Which means dead)
Your welcome
Hope she gets better
Hope this helps
:)

Your going to have to sell expensive stuff or your dog will not get the help she needs.

Take her to the Humane Society, set up payments with them. They are all about animal welfare. Call now and see about getting her in today.

if your dog is that bad i would sell the stuff and take her to a specialist.
i hope she gets better :):)
