When is a cup of coffee not a cup - or why is cup size different?

correct this please - a cup size is defined as 8oz, unless u are talking about coffee makers.

Then a cup can be 4oz to 8oz. Why is it different? I may have the answer. It depends on how fast the maker brews the coffee. If it is fast, the size is low. If it is slow the size is high. It is designed to yield the same strength coffee since the measuring spoons are all the same size.

What that means is that u are wasting coffee with an inefficient maker if the cup size is small.

I realized this when I forgot to place the lid on my carafe and made a big mess. The water stayed in the grounds longer (till I realized it and fixed it to drain). The coffee was very strong.

Just another example of the waste that goes on because we are all in a hurry. Just think how much u could save if u brewed ur coffee to go twice as far.

Update:

The question is in the title!

You probably have the correct answer. I have a coffee maker and it can hold up to 7 ounces of coffee and the cup size is 9 ounces, but yours is the average cup size.
