Christians: Why should I believe?

I live a decent life. I never hurt anyone and usually try to help people. I have moral values, I think all people are equal and I treat them like it as well. I don't have any prejudice against any group of peoples only against certain individuals which deserve it. I don't want eternal life or go to heaven. I believe my sole purpose in this world is to reproduce. Why should I believe in god if he hasn't showed himself to me? Why should I believe in a Christian god if there is such a big choice of gods nowadays? I don't think that hating gays is going to make my life more meaningful. The key question here is: WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE TO BELIEVE IN A CHRISTIAN GOD?

Update:

It would be nice if you could provide me with some proof, if you do, I will start considering to convert, and you should since it's your obligation to do so as a good christian.

good for you. your right you don't need a religion to have faith or believe in something or have morals if you live your life happy and as a good person why should it matter surely that counts more than those that believe and bully harass persecute and down tread others that don't agree with them religiously and taking away a persons value, meaning and worth . your life has more meaning because you only have one and you want it to count and it has a value because despite it all your hear and living a happy and for filling life

how moral is your 'God' if he is happy to send good people to burn in hell for eternity simply for not having his religion they talk about a compassionate loving god where does it show this flood, plagues and more to kill of those who disagree and some Christians are no better they are so up themselves they feel they can judge a person worthy of this! another human being! where is the compassion the morals that they say they have? if anything they deserve a long slow roast for the rest of time

The first reason you should give fair consideration to Christianity is because if true, your decision to accept or reject Christ has eternal consequences (ie Heaven & Hell).

"I don't want eternal life or go to heaven."

In any sincere search for truth we have to be careful not to fall into the trap of filtering the reality through our own opinions. What we want to be true is irrelevant. What is actually true is not affected by what we want to be true.

"Why should I believe in a Christian god if there is such a big choice of gods nowadays?"

We cannot choose what is true. Every belief system contradicts other belief systems in some way. They cannot logically all represent the truth.

"Why should I believe in god if he hasn't showed himself to me?"

    1) Have you inadvertently placed restrictions on the way God can reveal Himself to you? The basis of Christian salvation is faith. If God appeared to you in a burst af light, you would have knowledge rather than faith. Nevertheless, the Bible makes it clear that God has given us enough information about His existence, through His creation, that we are "without excuse"(Romans 1:18-21). Have you been looking for God in the wrong place?

    2) The Bible also promises that if we seek God we will Find Him. Have you sincerely sought the truth about God or have you (like many others) let anti-Christian biases steer you away from giving fair consideration to Christ?

"I don't think that hating gays is going to make my life more meaningful."

The Bible is clear that God does not approve of homosexuality. That said, "hating gays" is inconsistent with the message of Christ. God loves everyone. Jesus' sacrifice provided the same opportunity for "gays" to attain salvation as the rest of us. There is no Biblical justification for Christians devaluing homosexuals more than any other unbelievers.

If you do not believe, Christ said you would be condemned. Good reason to start believing, no? The fear of an eternity in Hell. The Bible says 'the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom'.

Jesus Christ is the True Vine. If you are cut off from this Vine for all eternity - by your own free choice - you will wither and die. You were created for an eternal reason with an eternal soul. This is not your true home. You are just passing through. You were meant for eternal happiness. However, what you do with your time now, here on earth is critical, and will decide your fate for all eternity.

My best advice is this. Pray. Begin praying. ASK, and you will receive. You will be saved. You will be enlightened. All good things will come to you through prayer. All those who pray are saved. Those who did not pray during their lives, are in hell. This is the teaching of many fathers of the Church. Pray especially to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She is the quickest and surest way to obtaining the good favor of her Son. Ave Maria! Hail Mary.

Hi Domski, if you ever could be bothered, check out the story of the good samaritan (Luke 10:30-37), it describes you in contrast to the 'holy ones'. There's plenty more of those stories in the bible. Christians either haven't read their bible or are seriously deluded when they think that they are "the ones'.

    God bless

THE G-OD OF CHRISTIANATY IS NOT ONLY THEIRS,,

theres no doubt your a good person,, but theres a reason you were giftedly created and granted 3 things:

1- the scenes which one of the uses are searching, learning and asking.

2- a fit brain which makes you have common sense, analysis and thinking.

4- the gift of choice! you can choose what you want to do,, unlike many creations who dont have that privilege,,

Seek and ye shall find. Knock and the door shall be opened to you.

It's not like converting to a religion. It's having a wonderful relationship with God.

Because He is offering His Love, Compassion, Relationship, and His Free Gift of Eternal Life With Him and also you Inherit His Kingdom when you accept Him with a sincere/convicted heart. (I would say that's a heck of a LOT better than the "Alternative".) Former Agnostic.

I don't care whether you choose to believe or not. You are exercising your God given freedom. There is no proof to convince you to believe. Those who believe no explanation is necessary. Those who do not believe, no explanation is possible.

Edit.....You do not go to hell if you don't believe in Jesus. You go to hell if you have committed a mortal sin.

How did David get so many thumbs up for telling you to believe in Jesus? He told you why to believe in god, but only because "Jesus died for your sins".

    Load of BS.

You DON'T have to believe in a christian god if you don't want to. It's your choice, and there are less prejudice religions out there.(Yes, I'm a christian, but I hate it when people tell you why you have to be a christian)

You either believe, or suffer eternally when you die.

Ya, No, thats a "loving god"

You are a sinner, you must scapegoat your sins on a 2000 year old jewish zombie, to avoid being tortured when you die. Spreading these lies to children is child abuse, as far as im concerned this religion is offensive to any thinking person.
