If the presidential candidate had to fight for each district?

Not that this could ever be financially implemented, given todays election economics. More as a theoretical idea

Update:

Would the outcome of any of the last 8 presidential elections change?

Most states are all or nothing, but let's say a candidate would have to fight for each of California's 53 districts, and only receives the ones that he won, would things be different today?

Probably, there are so many ways to fix this, but our crooked politicians block common sense all the time.

The electoral votes would more closely match the popular vote. In most elections, I don't think it will have much effect. In others, like the the 2000 presidential race, the other major candidate would probably win.

Republicans would win most of the time. Democrats would only carry the most populated regions.

Liberals have Congressional Districts that don't exist. They have spent alot of money in them and they will just vote for the money since there are no people there!

Maybe, but you realize that would be a total nightmare to deal with, correct? Not that your question doesn't have merit, but it's entirely unfeasible to actually attempt to implement it.
