Will i have a chance at UCLA?

I am a junior in high school and have a GPA of 3.977 and I am of arab/middle eastern ethnicity. In freshmen year, i took AP human geography, honors chem, honors english, honors Algebra 2, and Spanish 2 with a GPA of 3.75. Sophomore year i took Physics AP, Pre-calculus H, Biology AP, European history AP, English H, and Spanish 3 with a GPA of a 3.8 on a 4.0 scale. Now in junior year im taking English 11IB, Biology IB, Chemistry IB, Psychology IB HL, TOK IB, AP United States History, and Government AP with A's in all of them. Also for my extracurricular activites, I am currently performing community service everyday at my local hospital 6 days a week 4-5 hours each because I really want to study medicine and become a doctor someday. I do play tennis in USTA and such, and play Varsity for school tennis team, but I dont think that would matter. I have been studying and taking loads of practice tests for the SAT and have taken 2 PSATs, one freshmen year i got 140~1400 (super duper low) and one last year I got 195~1950. So please respond and give me very detailed answers on what I have a chance to UCLA, Stanford, UCI, and USC. Thanks

Maybe UCI. The others seem a bit far of a reach. I would have to say that Stanford is out of the question. My friend last year got rejected from Stanford. I WAS SHOCKED.

    She:

-Took every possible AP class and got a 5 on the test. (With the exception of AP Bio in which she got a 4. Guess why? She didn't take the class because it wasn't offered at our school. BUT STILL MANAGED TO GET A 4! UNBELIEVABLE RIGHT?)

-She got like a 2300 on the SAT and an 800 on four subject tests (I don't know which subject tests she took)

-She had TONS, I means TONS, of volunteer hours.

-She was president of various clubs.

I still couldn't believe she got rejected. But I'm realizing now (she's now a freshman at Brown) that the reason why she was rejected was because SHE WAS SO DAMN BORING. She was all academics and literally had no life. Colleges like to see diversity, meaning in her life. She never really went through hardships, she was handed everything from the moment she was born (she was somewhat wealthy) and really had no idea what the real world is like. I'm not saying she didn't deserve to get rejected, trust me if it was up to me I would have admitted her into Stanford like that, I'm just saying that elite schools look for students who excel despite the fact that their life might have been crappy. Also, I doubt her essay was very good. I'm sure her writing, prose, diction, etc...was great, but I can guarantee it lacked a major hook.

My advice to you: show each one of these schools that you're just more than grades. That you have versatility. Show them realism. What most applicants try to do in their essays is to paint a perfect picture of themselves. They know you're far from perfect, no matter what your scores say. SHOW THEM THAT. Show them that despite your imperfections, you don't let pride get in the way.

In the beginning of my response, I said that your chances at these schools were low. Do you know why? Because the only thing you've shown in this question is your academic ability. I can bet there are going to be thousands of applicants with your grades/scores. You need to show the admissions that you're more than just into academics. That you have dreams, and goals, and that you're human! In your essay, try to diverge from talking about your grades. They have your transcript (or will in May). So tell them about who you are. Show them realism and real human traits. If you do that, your chances at these schools are VERY high. Good Luck!

You have a pretty good chance of getting into UCLA, USC, and UCI. There are simply no guarantees with Stanford though - it really helps to have connections to get in there. I know plenty of kids who were National Merit Scholars, had 4.02+ GPAs, scores of APs, and 2300s on their SATs who have gotten rejected from Stanford.
