Shouldn't Dems be as worried (or more) about the rise of the "Tea Party" brand as Repubs?

Because the Tea Party movement is similar to what Ron Paul was doing during his presidential campaign (disgust at both parties). Ron Paul is currently getting far ranging bi-partisan support (conservatives, progressives, independents) for his Audit the Fed amendment. (4 out of 5 Americans currently support this measure).

Could this bipartisan coalition hurt BOTH major parties in 2010/2012??

Democrat - 36%

Tea Party - 23%

Republican - 18%

***UNDECIDED*** - 22%

As reported by Talking Points Memo, the respondents to the Rasmussen poll were asked the following question:

"Okay, suppose the Tea Party Movement organized itself as a political party. When thinking about the next election for Congress, would you vote for the Republican candidate from your district, the Democratic candidate from your district, or the Tea Party candidate from your district?"

The response of all those who were polled was Democratic 36%, Tea Party 23% and Republican 18%. Further, the poll found that independents are more inclined to vote for a tea party candidate over Democratic or Republican candidates.

Admittedly, there are some loonies in the Democratic Party - they should be in the Tea Party (What a joke of a name!)

    But,....

if this Loony Party becomes a reality, many of the more moderate Republicans will flock to the Dems.

And then the GOP will be no more, and pretty soon all these old 'Tea Party' fogeys will die off.

When the far left loonies in the Democratic Party start to notice all these 'Obama Republicans' all over the place, they will surely throw a tantrum and start their own 'We are the Conscience of the Nation Party'

Only then will the US be back on track to be the greatest nation on the planet.

    Patience, folks, patience.

We suffered through 8 years of Bush, didn't we?

They are not pulling votes from Democrats nearly as much as from Republicans. They are far to radical to appeal to a much larger group of votes. They are also a very dis-unified group. They only agree on what to oppose but have little agreement on an alternative. There are even two tea party groups fighting against each other and the movement is barely a year old.

They will most help, not hurt, democrats just like they did in NY.

Because they dismiss it as a fad, something that will fade away. They think the American people are too stupid to notice how radically progressive they're becoming. Wrong! Anyway, I do think the Tea Party Movement will do damage to the Democratic Party in 2010 and 2012, but the majority of the damage will be dealt to the Republicans since they are SUPPOSED to be conservative (which is a laughable statement).

It is far past the time for people to realize that they have more choices than Democrat or Republican, especially since *both* parties have been mismanaging the country for decades.

No. When it comes down to it, the teabaggers will only take votes away from Republicans
