At security x-ray screening, why do we have to take off our jacket?

i don't really like flying on winter time coz the hassle of taking off and putting on your boots and the TSA agents will ask you to take off your jacket or sweater. it is too much.

    Well, I work at a courthouse and sometimes they may feel it to see if something is sewn inside, or it's just easier for them to metal detector it without guessing if it's in your shirt or jacket...
