Not sure what to do...?
Single mom not sure about cars...
have a 1986 Buick Elektra station wagon with about 60K miles I bought from my grandma in April. Breaks completely shot. Two choices: sell the car "as is" with the disclaimer that the brakes do not work OR
put in the money to get them to work, then sell it.
Either way, I'm using money from the sale to put towards fixing transmission of my Chrysler Town & Country.
What would you do? Why?
The Buick is 20+ years old with lots of problems and the brakes "do not work" - as in cannot brake "at all". Probably needs everything new: pads, shoes, gloves, turn thingies, rotator thingies, and who know what else.
Van is 2000 T&C. No transmission.
Cannot afford monthly payments. Was hoping for a CC advance to pay for transmission in newer car. Everyone saying sell T&C "as is". Seems backwards to me. Elektra is full of problems, and now undriveable due to brakes. Still fix her and not van? Why?

I agree with the previous poster, I would keep the Buick and dump the Town and Country. Transmission repairs are a lot more than a brake job and Buicks are much better cars than the Chrysler product.

Not sure what you mean by "do not work". Are they just in need of some new pads and adjustment(relatively cheap fix)? Or do they have good pads(brake shoes) and when you step on the brake pedal it hits the floor? If you know a mechanic who will give you an estimate for free, you can use that figure to deduct from the price. If it is as bad as you are making it sound, it might be best just to sell "as is". Hope this helps.

Sell the Chrysler and fix the Buick. Much better vehicle. Since you know who had the Buick, you know it was maintained well, even if you don't go into the sentimental value of the car.

Dump the T&C and fix the Buick.
P.S.
While the Buick is no Toyota, it's a better car in the long run than a T&C minivan, which is FAMOUS for transmission and other problems.

Take both cars and trade them for something a little newer and more dependable. As is.
