It depends on who's talking to the character.
If the character is a girl who's very tomboyish, she might be referred to as -kun.
If the character is a traditional girl -chan would probably be the way to go.
Girls talking with each other as friends (like girls in the same year of school) might use other suffixes. Valarin and Valappe are viable, as are Vachan or Vappe.
Girls younger than Vala or of a lower level of experience in a business/sports team/organization would call her Vala-sempai until Vala says they're permitted to use her preferred nickname. Even then, they might still want to stick with -sempai as a show of respect.
