How can we as americans treat our female veterans as second class citizens instead of the heroes they are?

I just read an article that points out that people in general and even our government treat the women back from Iraq as non-persons. They make it seem these women did not fight and therefore were not really "soldiers". Well wake up america, women have died in combat in Iraq, women have been wounded in combat in Iraq and women take every single risk that the guys do. SHAME ON US for allowing this to happen!!! What are we going to do about it?

Update:

What we can do about it is write out representatives and express our outrage that this is happening. It is NOT media hype, it IS happening, and I know at least two women personally that agree with the article. Come on people, make noise, don't let the VA get away with this garbage.

Update 2:

sorry for the typo, it's write "OUR" representatives.

Not all Americans treat our female veterans as second class citizens only those on the Left do!

If you can't stand behind our troops please feel free to stand in front of them!

It's not just the Iraqi female vets. Those of us who served during Vietnam were treated far worse. Before we were even out of basic training, we'd get spit on, rotten food & eggs thrown on us & called 'baby killers'. Even those of us who were exposed to toxic chemicals during basic (Ft. McClellan) were exposed to as many, if not more than in 'Nam. Ft. McClellan was used as a toxic dump site for 66 years by Monsanto. At Ft. McClellan, they dumped Agent Orange, Agent Blue, ionizing radiation, depleted uranium, PCB's & a host of other toxins. Even 40+ years later, we are still denied treatment for our chemical exposures. There has been a bill submitted twice to the House & it has been shoved aside & ignored. While approval was given to the male Marine vets who were stationed at Camp LeJeune. It was also used as a dump site for 33 years. Even the VA won't treat female WAC vets who were only stationed at Ft. McClellan, but those who went to 'Nam receive treatment. Ft. McClellan has been described as the most toxic place on planet Earth. In the '90's, after it was 'discovered' or should I say 'uncovered', Monsanto settled with the citizens of the local town & thought the government would take care of those stationed at Ft. McClellan. But, the government forgot to tell those of us who were stationed there that it was used as a toxic dump site & that we were exposed. Many of us today have had numerous cancers, neurological damage & a host of other medical problems that can be directly related to the toxins dumped there. It doesn't do any good to write the government. They have been inundated with e-mails, letters & phone calls from both male & female vets, dependents who lived on base & also civilians who worked at the base. I think with so much time past, the government is just trying to wait until the last one of us dies. They forgot how tough they made us & many of us are still fighting deadly diseases to this day from their greed in allowing Monsanto to pay them to use bases as dump sites for their toxins. The creek that ran behind my WAC shack was tested in the '60's, by Monsanto (I just found this out last year with the FOIA). They put a bluegill in the creek & the fish became disoriented within 10 seconds & were dead within four minutes. Monsanto filed the report away & never informed EPA. The Government began investigating in the '70's but still didn't inform any active duty, dependents or civilians of the problem. I have several autoimmune disease, have had several cancers (first time at 32) & also suffer chronic lung disease. You can read more at the link I provided. Those of us who are left, could sure use the help getting treatment.

I suggest that you apply an amount of skepticism to articles that make these claims. A Soldier is a Soldier is a Soldier. News articles like this are designed to appeal to your emotions instead of your brain.

The US military and the government apply the same written standards to everybody. If the standard is that people who did 'x' are entitled to 'y' then that standard is applied to all.

I know of zero female veterans who have been treated as if their service was less merely because of their gender.

Why now not? Our congressmen all deal with them bigger than us! They HATE us until we're capitalisticly preditorial and filled with egocentric GREED and hate god and are queer and dont possess weapons or else THEY HATE US! All congressmen burn in hell. I wish to look them burn! I might torchure them if I would for a way they have got performed us all!!

well, of course female and male veterans should be treated alike.

my only experience is with one female vietnam vet, a decorated major who was a front-line nurse, married to another vet of lesser rank who helped keep her alive from the abhorrent actions of a few other vietnam vets. she has no complaints. she got respect then, coming home, and now.

it is too bad that others have had bad experiences. i do not know how to fix it. life just ain't fair.

I feel sorry for you because you bought into the lame stream media's falsehood of ideas!

The men and women that I know around where I live get treated with the utmost respect!

Maybe where you live it might be that way but not here in the state of Washington!

    I know, it's awful.

We ALL know deep inside that ALL veterans are second class citizens.

How stupid of us to only treat the female veterans this way.

How dare we let those male murderers get away so lightly.

Yes, women fight and die in modern warfare while just a couple of years ago this was not true. It takes time for society to catch up with reality.
