  • in Massachusetts, does Medicare pay for transportation to a doctor's appointment?

if they don't, is there any other similar service available? i need transportation to newton-wellesley hospital from cape cod, because there is no doctor on cape cod who provides the necessary services, and driving that distance is not safe. thank you.

  • tendinitis? my friend got a severe pain in his right elbow.?

when he saw his doc 2 days later, the pain had moved down to his right forearm. the doc diagnosed tendinitis, and gave him a cortisone shot.in the forearm. this did not help.

went to specialist, who prescribed prednisone (dosepak, 21 pills) which did not help, either, nor did prescribed gabapentin.

meanwhile, the pain moved further down, to wrist, to hand, and is now only in right thumb/wrist. it is very painful to extend his right thumb (which is a problem, because h is a guitarist.)

has anyone had this problem, and do you have any suggestions on how to deal with it?

    thank you.

  • msconfig: startup. what do i really need to safely boot my computer?

bootup takes almost 2 minutes (on an otherwise great laptop). i need to know what i can disable safely to improve startup time. as i understand it, disabling means i can start an app later, after the computer is already booted, to use it.

so: what do i really need to keep enabled in config.sys (or msconfig).

    thank you!

  • what is a diabetes urine microalbumin test for?

just had one -- results were Microalb. = 2.2.

    Urine Creat = 30.2

    M/C Ratio = 73.41, should be <30.00 mg Alb/g Creat

can anyone explain what this means? i've been a type 2 diabetic for 6 years, and recently have been needing more glyburide....BG goes high, and sometimes very low, for no apparent reason. FORMER doc told me to take acetaminaphen/nSAIDS, and 3 years ago this caused acute kidney failure. after i stopped taking, GFR and Creat. returned to normal. i don't know what THIS test means. have a lot of pain from 4 injuries, and a lot of stress. until recently, i often went weeks w/o needing even 1 glyburide. now......

    appreciate any info...

    thank you.

  • how to fix my computer screen resolution and size?

i hooked up my 24" monitor to my laptop. now the laptop screen has an image smaller than the full screen. didn't do this at first. must have hit a "wrong" key.

monitor: dell E248WFP (analog, 4 yrs. old, but dell still sells the same monitor for big $$$...way more than i paid.)

laptop: dell 8E6400 (amazing, btw, for a 'puter i bought by mistake on ebay for $180. it is WAY BETTER, FASTER, ETC. than my NEWER, MORE $$$ dells.)

monitor does not seem to accept greater than 1024 x 768 resolution, although the max res for the latitude is 1280 x 800. current res is fine, but WHY DID THE IMAGE GET SMALLER on the latitude, and how can i fix it?

ALSO: what's the best way to adjust the image on the monitor? has some not-too-terrible vertical stripes... sorry for second question, but figured that if you can answer #1, you can also answer this one. if you like, i can ask it as a second question for questions credit :)

    thank you.

  • i've been diagnosed with lyme's disease?

my primary doc gave me 3 wks of doxycycline and pronounced me cured. i'm totally miserable, and check off numerous boxes on a Lyme's symptoms test. any suggestions on how to get rid of this and feel human again?

headaches, nausea, weakness, lack of sleep, miserable personality changes without warning...i'll be seeing a new primary at the end of november. that seems a long time to let this go untreated. maybe there are some "home remedies" that can help me?

    thank you.

  • i was diagnosed with early stage lyme's disease. doc gave me 15 days of doxycline.?

i still feel horrible. constant fatigue. headaches. swollen glands. i had been excessively tired for many months before she ordered blood tests, so i wonder if this really is "early stages" of lyme's. i'll be seeing an infectious disease specialist in about 3 weeks. does anyone have any experience in getting and being cured of lyme's? btw, never got the "bull's eye" rash. may have had another rash, but i'm fair-skinned and sometimes it's hard to tell freckles from rashes...

    thank you.

  • how long does 15 mg. morphine sulfate ir stay in the system?

i was prescribed 15 mg. morphine sulfate ir (instant release) to take 4 times a day for 2 weeks while going through physical therapy for a torn meniscus (in knee). sometimes, it took care of the pain and sometimes it did not. when my doc gave me a urine test, it did not show up at all. does anyone have any experience with taking morphine for legitimate pain? my doc told me it looked like i was not taking it as prescribed, but i was taking one 15 mg. pill every 4 hours, as she prescribed. so....can someone tell me what this amount of this drug is supposed to do, and why it wouldn't show up in a drug test. thank you.

  • hip replacement infection.?

my friend had 2 failed hip replacedment surgeries, in nov. and dec. the 1st failed because a ball/socket came loose. the 2nd failed because jon got a very severe staph-type infection. he was rushed to NE Baptist Hospital (the best in our area) where the surgeon had to wait 3 days for jon's coumadin level to go down enough for surgery. then the whole hip was removed, and a cement spacer w/antibiotics placed. at first he had a vancomyacin drip, then when they sent him home, he's been taking levoflaxacin by mouth. he WAS getting better, but now the infection is all of a sudden getting worse. we are really scared. does anyone have any suggestions re: meds, intravenous, etc.? anything would help. we need to know what direction to go in, to ask his surgeon. thank you so much.

  • what's the best way to buy DirecTV?

trying to buy the "choice" pkg. of DirecTV, and i am confused. the price is quoted at $29.95/mo, with a free dvr and 3 free hd receivers. plus $100 rebate for both me and the friend who referred me. i've talked to sales reps and read the ads, and i can't figure out what the "hidden charges" are. i just want to hook up 3 tvs to ....whatever... (i've got comcast now, and it is horribly expensive for "extended basic.") i'm trying to do better than that. don't need to wander from room to room to watch the same tv program. just need service for 3 tvs (so i can watch netflix, which i REALLY love). would like to hear from anyone who has experience with buying direcTV--the product, the service, the cost. i live on cape cod (if that makes any difference. my friend who suggested/referred me lives in california.) the people in my house like to watch different shows. the recorder part isn't really important. any help would be welcome....personal experience with direcTv, or any suggestions of websites that would give me a clue...

    thank you!

  • my friend is taking vancomycin, 2gm 3 times a day?

this is through a SICC iv line (insertion by doc to heart), in his right arm. his infection (a very bad staph infection) was caused by a second botched right hip replacement surgery. he suffers from severe itching, and is given atarax for the itching. it does not help.

has anyone been through this (SICC line, vancomycin (or oxacillin) iv) and experience very severe itching, kidney failure, etc. and have ANY information about this.

his first diagnosis was about the botched hip replacement surgeries (a 3rd surgery, in less than 1 month, removed the hip replacement, so he has no hip until the infection is cured.

    we are worried.

ANYONE with information or suggestions would help. he's in an acute rehab hospital, and is also treated at NE baptist hospital, which specializes in orthodpedic surgery. so, he has an orthopedist, and also an Infectious Diseases doctor.

this is very scary stuff, and his main diagnosis is now septicemia.

    help, please.

    thank you.

  • my boyfriend is in an acute care rehab hospital?

he had 2 failed hip replacement surgeries, and got a really bad staph infection. he has no right hip at present. the acute care facility wants to discharge him to my house. he needs antibiotic injections every 4 hrs, is in much pain, cannot use right foot at all (right hip will be out until infection is cured (about another 4 weeks) and then another 6 weeks of strengthening physical therapy exercises. then he will get the new (3rd) hip replacement put in. after that, he will need physical therapy.

i am afraid to have him at home now, because i do not think it is safe. he outweighs me by more than 100 lbs, and the iv antibiotic injections must be given every 4 hrs., round the clock. he dreads going to a nursing home, where the care is very poor, the physical therapy is minimal, the homes are very understaffed.

much as i would love to have him at home, i do not think i am capable of caring for him. i'm not strong (can lift a max of 10 lbs. and have a torn meniscus in my right knee.

i think i am going to have to tell him i can not let him come home until the antibiotic injections are finished and the infection is totally cured. i think i could handle it if he then came home....with wheelchair and walker. (he cannot put any pressure on his right leg because he has no hip). but he cries when i mention the nursing home. i am trying to get the acute care rehab hospital to keep him till the infection is completely gone. that makes sense to me. it takes 2 attendants to move him from bed to walker to bathroom, or to wheelchair. in our local nursing homes, instead of taking patients to the bathroom when they need to go, they prefer that they soil themselves in bed and then get changed. it's an ugly situation.

any ideas on how to convince the acute care hospital to keep him at least till the infection is cured???

this is heartbreaking. i don't want to disappoint him. he cries, and he's NOT a whiner. but i don't think he will be same at home yet.

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS ON WHAT I SHOULD DO????

thank you for any and all ideas.
