if the Yankees want to beat Boston (since the top pitching is gone) should they sign a top hitter.?
Should they try and trade for a good starter, they will have to go to 2004-2006 form and try and outhit the other team. They have arguably one of the best 1-2 combos at the top of the rotation (Sabathia - Burnett) and then the crafty vet Pettitte. Should they stop pursing the aging Damon and go after Holliday now that the pitching on the market is gone. I think Holliday would contribute nicely, even though he is a righty hitter, his swing type would make good for the deep left center at Yankee Stadium.
Or should the yanks just scrounge up a whole load of B (and i mean by load as a few) pitchers off the market. I think they HAVE to get Chapman now (prepare him in the minors for one year) and i think their are some decent righty's on the market. If im not mistaken i do believe Jason Marquis is out there, he is a groundball pitcher so he would win pretty well at Yankee Stadium. Anyway, all opinions are open.
ok i didnt prove my point. because the PITCHING is gone, we will need as much hitting as possible. I have complete faith in Jeter, Tex, A-Rod, and Cano. But what about replacing the aging players like Matsui, and the greedy Damon.

Yankees definitely dont need to sign a top hitter. Either resign Damon for 2 years $18million. If he wont accept that let Melky play LF. I would try to sign some average pitchers like Ben Sheets, maybe Jason Marquis, etc. You can never have too many arms. Yankees 4 and 5 spots are no locks in the rotation and it never hurts just in case someone gets injured. There is no reason for the yankees to be worried about Boston signing Lackey. Yankees have faced Lackey many times and have shown the resiliance to beat him many times. Boston will always be a strong competitor but the Yankees are still a stacked team and will be fighting hard to defend that championship

If the Yankee's wanted a groundball pitcher, they wouldn't of given up on Chien-Ming Wang despite his recent stump. The Sox already offered Chapman a deal but either way, he has never pitched in the majors and who knows how long his arm can hold on. If the Yankee's were to outbid for Chapman and something goes wrong with his arm like Wagner (Tommy John Surgery) then good luck with the wasted money.
Also, I think the true 1-2 punch for the Yank's is Sabathia - Pettitte, Burnett walks too many batters.
Why not get Cust instead of Holliday, he can play outfield and DH. I don't think Cust has had as many at bats as Holliday had within a season before but hell, he's a rising slugger.
Response to: "I think Holliday would contribute nicely, even though he is a righty hitter"
Cust is a left handed batter so that should benefit that. (I never took a good look at the new Yankee's Stadium yet.)
Extra: Granderson is a decent hitter so at least the Yankee's didn't downgrade that much unlike the Sox whom lost Bay and soon to be Lowell.

What top hitter do they not already have? I say that they should continue looking for a pitcher. Now that Boston's starting 3 consists of Beckett, Lester and Lackey, Boston will be able to trade other pitchers for possibly another hitter, so their hitting will get better too. The Yankees have the offensive capacity they need clearly, and there are some good pitchers left on the market and possibly their farm system (aka the rest of the MLB). Anyways, nonjokingly, Pettite is aging, and Burnett was a sketchy as it gets last season (not including playoffs). Aside from CC Sabathia, they really don't have an "ace" quality pitcher. I don't know who they will get, but if they do not grab a pitcher, they will need all the offesnive support they can get to get back earned runs from mediocre (kidding) pitching.

The Yankees don't need to make an "A-List" signing ... Think about it, who are you going to move out of the hitting line-up? Jeter for Scutaro? Tex for Adam LaRoche? A-Rod for Adrian Beltre? Are you going to spend $100 million on Matt Holiday to have him bat 6th? Their primary need was to find a defensive upgrade in CF, they already got that.
For the starting rotation, are you going to spend $30 - $80 million for a #4? Their money would be better spent finding a veteran innings-eater to hold down the #4 spot and then bringing in a guy who could dominate the middle innings of relief. My guess is that Mike Gonzalez (a former closer and lefty who can get righties out) is on their radar...or maybe a guy like George Sherrill if the rumors are true that the Dodgers are looking to move him.

that they had the prospect to get out of the seventh and can have in all probability IW'd Vladdy, yet he has a tendency to be an worry-free out via swinging at rubbish pitches. If something, identity fairly walk Hunter to get to Vladdy lol. yet Hughes regarded undesirable and alter into completely overthrowing. He couldnt throw his Fastball for strikes, yet had a bad breaking pitch working, and made each and every hitter seem undesirable. yet, he throws a a million-2 fastball to Vladdy good down the rattling center and thats what ruined each and every thing. Girardi additionally made a undesirable circulate for my area, via leaving AJ available for the seventh. It exchange into the perfect time to drag em out of the sport. Granted, he did pitch nicely after the messy 1st inning, yet nevertheless, he extremely basically didnt have his ultimate in the present day. in any case, this modification right into a dreadful loss. i think of long island is done and are going to devote yet another choke like in 04. la has all the momentum good now. I assume that long island gets bombed in game 6, something like 10-2 or in spite of, as a results of fact on an identical time as Pettitte remains important, if he doesnt have his ultimate, he continuously gets pounded considering he isnt a potential pitcher anymore. Now that the Angels enormous hitters are finally hitting, it doesnt seem good. As for game 7, yea, they have Sabathia, yet he can in basic terms do it lots, and that i will see long island dropping that game via a score of like 4-3 or 5-4. Lol as continuously, long island basically cant ever close a team out. Im telling you, la has this sequence now. that they had game 3, and blew that one with some questionable strikes, and now they lose a game they surely could have had.

no they have plenty of power and hitting for their line up. the could improve with an okay pitcher like Jason Marquis or Ben Sheets. they already have the good top of the rotation but in need of another solid starter, if they don't bring in Chamberlain or Hughes from the bullpen. but if they do that then they would most likely need to get a middle reliever or set up man for Mariano.

The Yankees don't need to sign a big free agent to beat the Red Sox. The Yankees are a definite division winner, even if the Sox got Lackey.

I'd like to see Damon come back for a year or two as well as the addition of a good proven pitcher. Then, they would be set.

Pitching wins championships, and the Sox almost double the pitching talent of the Yankees.
