How to install windows Vista on an Ubuntu laptop?

To cut a long story short, I have had to install Ubuntu onto my laptop as the main OS, however I have been unable to get any of my pre-bought software to work.

I have been given (gratefully) a licence key for Windows Vista however trying to install it on a partition or as a dual-boot option (is this the same thing?) doesn't work.

How can I get Windows Vista installed on an Ubuntu OS when Linux can not run executable files?

    If you install them in the right order, Ubuntu does all the hard work for you.

    How I did it (I have no experience with the Remix, so YMMV) was to install Windows first using the whole hard drive. Then boot up the Ubuntu disc and use the Ubuntu graphical installer. The graphical installer has a nice handy application for creating partitions on your hard drive. So select a partition size (I split my hard drive 50/50), and install Ubuntu into the "free space" area you've created, rather than the area labelled "Windows".

    After that installation is complete, Ubuntu will automatically install the GRUB bootloader, which will give you a menu which you can select Windows or Ubuntu from on bootup :)

    Hope it works out for you

    START OVER!!

    First set up partitions; at least 3, one can be smaller, for a linux "swap" partition (This can be done with Ubuntu LIVE, or windows vista.)

    Install windows on FIRST partition (C:) FORMAT ONLY THE WINDOWS PARTITION(S)!!

    THEN install the Ubuntu on the OTHER TWO partitions, mounting one as \ and the other as swap. The Ubuntu, "GRUB" loader WILL set up the boot for dual-boot automatically during the install.

    NOTE: IF you ever want to remove the Ubuntu, you will have to start ALL OVER again in order to remove the grub loader!! (Another reason I don't like it.)

    ALSO, windows back-up will NOT make a "complete" system backup on Vista and later versions.

    (Personally I don't care for Ubuntu since I use Dial-up mostly and it doesn't have dial-up modem capability built in, while several other FREE Linux releases do.)

    gah dual boot unless you know what you are doing that horrid you might not have the partition formatted plus you have to put the windows disc in and when your computer boots look at the bottom of the screen and see where it says something about booting hit the function key for like like f2 or f10 its one of those two make sure you hit the cd selection or change to boot from cd first then reboot and your computer should boot from the disc make sure to change to NTFS format if you need more help hit me up

    Try this;

    Vista's MBR will destroy Ubuntu's GRUB on instal so you have to re-create the GRUB in order to dual boot, the above link gives a step by step guide on how to do the complete instal.

    in case you have not have been given any project deleting each and every little thing on your difficultchronic(backup each and every little thing you prefer to maintain), you are able to only boot from an Ubuntu CD and use the Disk gadget or GParted from administration menu to repartition and format your difficultchronic. be effective to create a minimum of one time-honored partition and format it with NTFS.
