What is so great about a religion that preaches intolerance?
I'm not just referring to Christianity,I'm talking about Islam too.I've read both books(The Bible and The Koran)and it seems to me that both books are full of hatred for people of other faiths.
Isn't God supposedly a god of peace and love?I can't reconcile this with the mean-spiritedness of those books,it just doesn't make sense.
What do YOU think?Be honest!

According to their logic, uh, if you conveniently ignore all the "bad" parts I guess it's ok.

If you read the New Testament you will not find any mean spiritedness. I am a Catholic and know intolerance on the receiving end and yet I have never heard, not even once, a priest speak in church against people of other religions; Jews, Muslims, or Protestants. I went to a Catholic school for twelve years & was never taught intolerance for others by any priest or nun although once in a blue moon a nun here or there would say that only Catholics go to heaven. Not true! Apparently they haven't heard the news that they are mistaken in this belief.
Those Christians who rant and rave shouldn't be listened to; they are not following the message of the bible which is about loving each other and peace. Unfortunately, they give the rest of us Christians a bad name. Most of the Christians I know are pretty quiet people who attend church, trying to be the best they can be as they go about their daily activities. They try to give to the community as a whole through donations of time and money and helping those in need.
I just ask that you judge each person separately and not stereotype us.

Christianity preaches love and understanding, and Christians are told to reach out and share the message. The only intolerance I can think of in the New Testament is intolerance for sin. Read Matthew 5 and 6 for a message of hope and faith.
In the Old Testament we have stories of conquest and cleansing of people who had offended God so much he wanted them removed from the face of the Earth. But we also have the beautiful messages of Psalms and Proverbs, along with Ecclesiastes.
Much of the Bible depicts a time when survival was a tribal project, and weaker tribes failed to survive. With the help of God, the people of Israel grew strong and survived.
Throughout history the strong have survived and the weak have perished. Is this unjust? Perhaps. But God never promised to protect the weak and undisciplined people. Nor did he protect those who were the enemies of His people.
God is a god of peace and love, but also one of power and strength. His word, the Bible, the Koran, and His peoples would never have survived into the 21st Century without those traits. This is not just the story of the peoples of Abraham, but also the Chinese, the Samurai, and even the Native American warrior tribes. The strong make it. The weak don't.
God wants winners, and does not tolerate losing or losers.

Ok Mr Manic: You need to read history. Compared to Judaism and Christianity Islam is very tolerant. It never Imposed itself violently on others. The arabs and later the Ottomans were smart conquerors . They did not infringe on local religious beliefs. They knew this would cause trouble and when you have to run an empire you do not want trouble. They allowed churches to be built and gave sanctuary to religious refugees from Europe. How do you think the Sephardic Jews wound up in the east- they fled from spain during the wonderful times of the Holy Roman Inquisition and the 30 years war. A visit to the Arab world will reveal all this hidden knowledge to you. How old are you people to fall for such cheap and ignorant propaganda.

God is the Lion of Judah, Jesus the lamb. God is love, but is capable of great wrath. God teaches obedience to His word and Christ's teachings. He also teaches to treat others greater than yourself. He teaches that you should shut out of the church , those who overtly disobey. We don't hate people of other faiths, we just think they are misguided, and on the wrong path. Historically there was a lot of fighting between different groups of people in the middle east, just as in the early days of the land grabs and dominance, settlements, in what eventually became the USA.Ethnic groups hated each other......there was a lot of killing...
Iran passed a law this past year, that makes it legal to kill any person who is not muslim. What year is this?

The Old Testament was written by goat herders in the Bronze Age
God is a fabrication of primitive minds
Religion isnt based off logic, and religion has been used throughout history to promote prejudice and hate
Since you said you read both books you should know first hand how ridiculous these religions are

The following are from the Qur'an (they are fairly to the point about killing the infidels)
"Truly Allah loves those who fight in His Cause in battle array, as if they were a solid cemented structure," (Surah 61:4).
"Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress limits...191And slay them wherever ye catch them. and turn them out from where they have turned you out; for persecution is worse than slaughter; But fight them not at the sacred Mosque unless they (first) fight you there; But if they fight you, slay them. Such is the reward of those who reject faith. 192 But if they cease, Allah is oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. 193And fight them on until there is no more persecution. And the religion becomes Allah's. But if they cease, Let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression" (The Qur'an, Surah 2:190-193).
.....and some from the bible..
When the Lord your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you many nations – the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, seven nations larger and stronger than you – and when the Lord your God has delivered them over to you and you have defeated them, then you must destroy them totally. Make no treaty with them, and show them no mercy. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons, for they will turn your sons away from following me to serve other gods, and the Lord’s anger will burn against you and will quickly destroy you. This is what you are to do to them: Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones, cut down their Asherah poles and burn their idols in the fire. (Deuteronomy 7:1-5)

what's your definition of intolerance, precisely? Is it illiberal for me to disagree with somebody or their life-sort? Or does the intolerance are available in while i for my area *hate* somebody? there are a number of stuff I disagree with, yet i do no longer hate the guy who does it. i do no longer trust the gay life-sort, yet i do no longer hate homosexuals. I even have been instructed right here, besides the undeniable fact that, that only because of the fact i think of that is incorrect that i'm a homophobe, a hater, and illiberal. i'm a girl, and that i firmly have faith that i'm equivalent to my husband, because of the fact the bible teaches. besides the undeniable fact that, I do think of that the jobs we've are diverse. i've got been mentioned as each and every form of issues for this view. that is unusual to me that folk think of that ladies folk and adult males human beings are "an analogous." that is laughable, fairly. So, am I illiberal because of the fact I even have my evaluations? i do no longer stress every physique to trust me, i've got under no circumstances disrespected somebody on the inspiration of their race, faith, intercourse, or sexual orientation. And yet, i'm illiberal because of the fact I disagree with them. it fairly is is mindless in any respect.

It depends on what you're being "intolerant" of. Intolerance of sin is not a bad thing.
God is not interested in a temporal peace on a sinful world. God's Kingdom is not of this world. Peace cannot exist on this planet as long as sin exists.

Actually, the Christian God is a vengeful God. And the Koran makes no bones about their thoughts on infidels. JESUS was the one that preached peace.

to have peace you can only have one teaching where all follow it
if there are different beliefs then you can not have peace but division
same way with god.
if you make different gods with different beliefs then there is no unity but confusion.
god's command that he is to be worshiped and followed only and his commands are to be followed will bring peace.
to have peace every one has to follow and believe the same thing.
there can not be peace with diversity and different religions that contradict each other.
any religion that goes against what jehovah god says causes division not peace
