Who is the Bible's author?
...and don't tell me "God," or you'll have to explain the inconsistencies.

Every book of the Bible was written by someone different. In the New Testament it's obvious for many of the books; not so much with the Old Testament. Did you know that the Bible contains books which are parables - meaning stories made up to make a point? Other books are genealogical in nature. Some are allegories which teach lessons through symbolism which have moral, social, religious or political significance. There are those Christians who believe that the Bible is literal but you won't find any theologians or Biblical scholars who will agree with that. The use of many different types of books of the Bible can result in seemingly inconsistencies.

The Bible is an anthology of marginally related books. Some of the individual books even have multiple authors. Many of the traditionally assumed authors probably aren't accurate. For example Moses didn't write any of them, because if he had been an actual person, he would have died centuries before the Torah was written.

There was no single author. It's a collection of works written by various people over the span of at least a thousand years, and further edited and compiled by even more people. Even then, a lot of the stories were oral traditions before they became written.

We do not really know. It was not one person but thousands. It is not the work of one man. The final hard copy was put together in the 4th century ad after a lot of bickering editing back stabbing and blood. And of course god had nothing to do with it. Humans decided what it was that god wanted.

The Bible was written by many different people, over a span of about 1500 years.
Christians believe it was inspired by God, though.
