Atheists, was any one of you ever physically harmed or psychologically abused because of your religious stance?

I don't know if it should be written as "was any one of you" or "were any one of you". I'm very poor at grammar.

No, but my little brother was beaten up and ridiculed a lot in school for not believing in God. Is that want you wanted to hear? Stories about loving Christian bullies?

Edit: @ Poems, yes in my brother's case you are right...child abuse at the hands of Christian children, and poor parenting by their Christian parents.

For being an atheist? No. Although it's not something I wear a tee shirt for so unless the subject comes up in conversation most people aren't going to know I'm an atheist.

The 1st reply would probably physically harm or psychologically abuse someone for being an atheist though

I've gotten some rudeness for being an atheist. Since I live in a liberal area nothing more serious than the occasional "you're going to hell" or "you're evil" happens. No, atheism is not necessarily a result of poor parenting or abuse. If so how come so many atheists are successful and come from happy families? Also, a lot of religious people come from abusive families, probably more than atheists. They turn to religion to distract themselves from the pain. There's nothing wrong with that in my opinion unless they force it on others.

No, not to the point where I'd need to call the cops. But, I live in north central Florida. A rural area, where young men drive around in large 4 wheel drive trucks with Confederate flags on a stick in the bed of the truck. Boy do I ever keep my head down.

"Was any one" is correct. The subject is singular, so the verb should be singular also. No, I can't say that I've ever been psychologically abused (any more than any of us are by this insane society), and certainly I've never been physically harmed due to my atheism. Odd question; what prompted it?

In a sense. After 20 years teaching in Catholic schools (very successfully, I might add), I was fired simply for being gay. That was psychological abuse on a rather high level.

No, I live in the UK and we are predominantly secular and have a around a 75% atheist/agnostic/don't know population.

The religious around 16-20% Christian, 2.5% Muslim, .5% Jewish are generally respectful on matters of God.

They don't talk about it unless someone asks, they keep themselves to themselves. And we generally leave them alone with respect.

No, not when I was a Christian, and not after my deconversion. But then I'm fortunate enough to live in Denmark, where the most common attitude towards other people's religious positions (or lack thereof) is one of "live and let live".

    Me? No.

Somebody I knew when I was in college was attacked. Fortunately, a campus security officer who was nearby intervened before any damage was done. After that event transpired, I realized that, unless I'm certain of my safety, it's usually best to keep my view private.

Should be "were"; that's the past tense form of "is" to be used when your subject is plural. :)

No, I have not been. I've never been physically or psychologically abused for any reason.

    [edit]

@Poems: In short, go stuff yourself.

In more detail: You obviously know nothing of atheists, and seem to be here only to be insulting. I've yet to see any sort of rational answer from you; is your life that worthless and your education that limited that you have no recourse to pleasure other than masturbating your weak ego through third-grade insults?
