Different .22 LR ammo to try out?
Ok, so I bought a Marlin 925 .22 LR bolt-action and I was wondering y'all's opinion on the ammo I should try so that I know what it's preferred "food" is. So far I already have the following .22 LR ammo: 40 grain Federal Champion 510 LR round-nose solid lead, 40 grain Winchester Wildcat 22 LR round-nose solid lead, 38 grain Remington 22 Subsonic LR round-nose HP, 33 grain Remington 22 Yellow Jacket LR truncated cone HP, and 36 grain CCI Mini-Mag LR. (note: I have already used the Yellow Jacket LR HP to kill a 200 lbs hog with a pump Savage 29b "Ranger" but have never target shot with them. I have target shot with 510 Federal Champion, using the 29b, and would get about 5 duds out of a box of 50.) So now I was wondering if there is any other ammo that you would recommend me trying out in my Marlin 925. Also if you could tell me the most effective range for your recommended round I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you for all your help.
@ Kevin_57: CCI Mini-Mag's and Yellow Jacket's are copper and brass plated. And I clean all guns after shooting or sitting for 4 weeks.
@ Dana H: The Marlin 925 has a 1:16 spin.
The hog (200 lbs Russian boar) kill was at about 20 ft for the first shot (I was backed up by a .30-30 lever action) and that was placed right in the kill shot on the left side, just behind the shoulder blade, and the round passed through and through. The second shot was placed within a quarter of the first while the hog ran for 8-10 yds, this is the round that was foun in the right rib cage lodged between two ribs. I didn't manage to hit the heart but I did get both lungs and the liver, not bad for my first time hunting and just planning on getting a few rabbits, ha-ha. This was my first hunt and I was extremely hapy with my moving target shot placement. We were able to figure out the shot tragectory upon gutting and cleaning the kill.

Most subsonics will shoot better out of a fast twist barrel (1/9 or 1/12) but they also shoot well out of some regular barrels. You might see how the Aguila 60 gr SSS will shoot. Big impact and reliably consistent out of 'some' rifles.
I'm curious about the hog kill. at what range, single shot and what shot placement? if you care to share... (and of course, none of us are recomending this cartridge... only academic... the usual disclaimers.... yada yada)

If you mean type of ammo, you should only fire the specified type (in this case, .22LR) stamped on the barrel of your rifle, although I've heard that some .22LR rifles can fire .22 shorts as well. If you mean the brand of ammo, then it shouldn't matter that much. You could find the best brand of ammo your gun prefers/works the best with if you want. Most of the ammo we used I think were a few assorted brands mixed together, but I think we fired all of those ones already. From my experiance, using assorted brands in the same magazine/ same shooting day doesn't seem to affect the weapon in any abnormal way. As long as you use the correct ammo type and clean and maintain your gun regularly you should be fine.

Cycle through the named ammo, find which one feeds the best and costs the least.
Another good option for plinking(especially in bolt action) is a 22wmr. Little more expensive, but only be 2-3 per 50.(unless you buy bulk 22lr) and the 22 mag will be much more consistent/accurate.
As you said find out it's preferred "Food" might be the best options. Some rifles fancy one brand, others can use several, or any.

The most effective range for ALL .22 LR rounds is the closest range at which you can shoot. The .22 LR does NOT get more effective downrange.
You're dealing with semantics here. All of the ammo you mentioned will do the job, and there is no other ammo that will be much better. Personally, I use CCI Velocitors (a bit heavier than their legendary Stingers).
Really, though, I can't stress enough that it just doesn't matter. Use solid points for target shooting and hollow points for hunting, and don't shoot hogs with a .22 unless you have to.

All those mentioned are fine for shooting. Don't shoot large tough game with a 22 unless its a head shot 2ft away. Find out which works for you and your gun. CCI is good and copperplated winchester whitebox works good as well.z

Be careful using hi velocity lead bullets as they can lead up the barrel. Plated or jacketed bullets will keep the bore cleaner. Other than that, try what you have and see which one works best for you.
