People who smoke, When giving gifts of clothes, Why do they not consider that the smoke sticks to the clothes?

When you open the gifts, the smell is putird and puts you straight off the gifts.

I understand people have habits but surely some consideration would help but is it then that the person receiving is ungrateful?

Update:

An early assumption has been made, that I had received the gifts but unfortunately for me in this circumstance, I had bought the clothes.

I can clearly see that there are some strong views out there regards smoking.

Seems as if I have to think about the staining smell in future, Thank You for all the responses.

Well, it's not me being ungrateful when my baby daughter's new clothes stink of *** smoke. Although the person that gave them to her did try and get the smell off first.

I honestly think they just don't think, as obviously the smell of smoke doesn't bother them.

I'm a smoker and it doesn't cross my mind when I painstakingly search all the shops trying to find something nice to get them, buy it, then lovingly wrap it - that all they would think of me was that I have a bad habit. The only thing I would be thinking about would be that they would smile when they opened my gift to them and enjoy it...consideration is a door that swings both ways. Someone took the time to buy you a gift. Be thankful for it.

As an ex-smoker ;1998, I didn't know. I couldn't smell smoke until I stopped smoking. Went through a long period of feeling guilty. Be tolerant, get the bloody thing dry- cleaned. It's supposed to be the thought that counts, no?

If they knew that your gift smelt, then they'd feel bad; but think of it this way: YOU'RE GETTING A PRESENT, STOP COMPLAINING DUDE! IT'S CHRISTMAS :P

Give it a wash if it means so much to you..
