senior housing in new mexico preferably subsidized?

i want to know a good area in new mexico for senior citizens with respiratory problems in new mexico. for starters i would like to try subsidized to see how that works. any help would be appreciated.

Update:

i don't know too much about subsidized housing, i thought it would be a cheaper option. i am just getting into all this and if my questions seem naive, i apologize.

subsidized housing has income requirements. You get on a list at the local level, city dept or county. They check your finances and let you know if you qualify or not. Often there are massive organizations that help seniors, usually run by senior volunteers. I think subsidized housing was part of LBJ's Great Society.

Oh and if you have a documented disability you go on a different list, much shorter.

Subsidized housing is to increase your living, you only pay a % of the rent based on your income, the Gov. pays the rest.

Try out some of the senior organizations they are a wealth of information and some even know how to manipulate the rules in your favor.

Without a Section 8 voucher, you have to go directly to each apartment building and see if they have any subsidized units. You might find senior apartments easily that are HUD apts and rent is 30 percent of income. You can find mobile homes that have tax credit programs to offer seniors low rents. You can go online to many websites, including apartment renta websites for New Mexico that have senior apartments.

I have been wanting to investigate the Santa Fe area for years. I'll meet you down there and let's see what's what. If you have respiratory problems, large amounts of natural vitamin E would help your breathing tremendously.

Sorry, after rereading this, I had to edit. < turning red now >

you don't say what kind of housing. if your looking to buy, say in a sr. mobile home community, try HUD on line for options. You can google new mexico sr housing for other available sources.
