I've heard somewhere that omitting h at the beginning makes you sound aristocratic, well-educated and posh. And putting an indefinite article in front of nouns such as history etc.that begin with an h. I have never thought about it before, but now that you mention it, i can't stop thinking about it. Is it herb or erb? I would definitely pronounce it with an h.

Like "Erb". I'm American, mostly British people use the H-pronounciation.
