you may need a root canal.

The nerve of your tooth is inflamed (pulpitis) This often happens after a deep filling is placed in a tooth, or if there is a deep cavity, or if you traumatise a tooth. The treatment for it is root canal treatment, or extraction of the tooth.
If left untreated, the nerve of your tooth will eventually die, at which time the pain may subside somewhat, but only to be followed by the formation of an abscess.
The only advice is to keep taking pain killers until you can get to a dentist. Ask a pharmacist for the most suitable pain killer. You should only take advice on medication from professionals who know your medical history

Obviously, you need to see a dentist. In the meantime - you can take Ibuprofen (brand name Advil) to help with the pain - is it a NSAID (non-sterioidal anti-inflammatory drug).
You could even put Ambesol on it for topical pain relief - most drug stores have both of these over the counter.
If you don't have either of the above, resting a clove on the tooth might help. Aspirin will work better than nothing.
Hope you feel better soon. See the dentist for the best care. I would call your dentist now, and get the "on call" dentist for further advice.

Exposed nerve (root). You need to see a dentist asap or it will only get worse. You can buy some temporary hardening packing material at pharmacys or WalMart but it is ONLY a temp fix to help relieve pain until it can be recapped.

you probably got a really bad cavity. A question like this looks like something a dentist should handle, not some random guy on yahoo.

This happened to my son. His filling was resting on a nerve. I took him back to the dentist, who adjusted the filling. And now my son is pain free.
