I think my sister's great dane/golden retriever is dying! HELP!?

Okay he is a male mix, about 9 months old.

He was doing fine when they first got him bout 3 or 4 months ago.

Lately he has stopped eating & when he does eat he pukes it back up.

They've tried some human foods too & it all has the same effect.

Yesterday, new Years Eve, hey had an appt for him but since they had no ride to take him there the appt. was missed.

Every vet today is closed except for the animal hospital which they have no money for.

His symptoms are now;

-not eating, not drinking

-after eating he vomits it all up

-lays down & breathes slowly

-unresponsive to anything such as his name, good boy; anything

-he doesn't like to stand & is very weak

-& as of at this moment he is drooling a lot which i'm thinking means he's going to vomit again soon

We don't know what o do & i'd really like to figure it all out if we can.

Maybe he ate something? But what?

Maybe he has parvo? My sister said she thinks he may be too old for that virus & that the previous owner said he had all his shots & tests done.

Update:

like i said. its my sister's dog & im over there house so if you're "sick" from people like ME. Maybe you should re-read what i post. I'M the one trying to help. So for the people that not only can't read but think that vet's are open today, maybe you should step back & also realize that I came on here to help my sister & her dog & that criticizing me isn't the way to help us. Thanks.

If your sister had an appointment, then she should have had a ride lined up to take her and her dog to the vet, or your sister could have called a cab. That's no excuse! This poor dog is suffering and could possibly be dying and since your sister took responsibility for the care of this dog, it's her responsibility to get the poor thing to a vet. Just in case you don't know this, your sister is breaking the law, by not providing a sick animal with immediate medical care. It is against the law when a pet is sick or injured, NOT to take it to the vet for proper diagnosis and treatment. If someone see's your sisters dog in this condition and not being properly cared for, they can Report her and she could go to Jail for Animal Abuse Neglect if they do Report her. One way or another, this dog needs a vet NOW! If your sister cannot afford vet care for her dog, which I find very sad, then she needs to surrender her dog to the vet! They will treat him if at all possible or they will humanely Euthanize him, so he doesn't suffer a long, agonizing death! If by some miracle he does survive, they will find him a new home with a loving family, that can afford vet care. We are Not vets and cannot diagnose your sisters dog, over the Internet. Letting this poor dog go on like this is Cruel, Inhumane and really Unfair to the dog!

It doesn't sound like Parvo, but something is seriously wrong with him. A major symptom of Parvo is bloody diarrhea. No dog is too old to get Parvo, its just that an adult dog's immune system can usually fight it off. He needs to be seen by a vet right away. If he's eaten something and its gotten stuck in his intestines it will kill him unless he has surgery.

with large dogs like a great dane or a golden they some times get intestinal obstruction or bloat. this is when the gut twists or becomes plugged. it will result in death if not treated quickly.

heres what you do. figure out if you have a lot of money (because a problem like this requires x rays and surgery and overnight stays and will be very very expensive) if you have money. then find and emergency vet clinic. usually they have one or 2 in every large city. they will be open on holidays and late at night. take the dog there and prepare to pay a lot

if you dont have money, then sit with him, comfort him, and say your goodbyes because he will soon die.

you should take it to the animal hospital asap it doesn't matter if they don't have money for it they can probably find a way to pay for it this dog needs vet attention asap. it is better to pay for a vet bill than to waste the money buying the dog.

Look for an emergency vet in the phone book or online and take the dog there now.

Yes, he is dying. The fact that the owner is not able to get him to medical care and has allowed him get into this condition is very wrong. Is there an SPCA or other rescue that will come and pick him up? At least he will be euthanized rather than this slow, painful death.

It could be as simple as he ate something harmful, or something much, much worse like gut twist, etc.

He really needs to get to a vet now, try to sell things if you cannot pay for it.

Here are some financial assistance websites as well: http://www.thepetfund.com/ and http://www.care2.com/c2c/share/detail/300198.

If you absolutely cannot get your dog the vet emergency ASAP, please make him as comfortable as possible and try to get him to drink water and stay hydrated tonight. In the morning contact vets in town and ask about payment plans. If you still cannot take him to the vet, please contact shelters, rescues, etc. and search for any assistance you can find.

Your right, sounds like he's dying. What do you want us to do? Tell you a home remedy? People like your sister should not own a dog and should be brought up on neglect charges. She would serve jail time if it were up to me.

Call animal control and relinquish the dog to them, they will probably euthanize him to put him out of his misery, or they may treat him, which is what he desparately needs. Either way would be better than watching him die a slow and terrible death.

Your dog is very, very sick from something. Take him to the Emergency Vet Clinic ASAP, before he does die.

What do expect strangers online to do? We are NOT vets, and even if we were, the dog CANNOT be diagnosed online. No money for a vet, then the dog should be surrendered to a rescue.
