how to get motor oil from under fingernails?
I want to work on my cars but the oil doesn't look professional.
Anyone have an answer that includes getting the oil from underneath one's fingernails?

You can of course buy you a nice supply of Nitrile gloves that will keep your hands from getting grease/dirt on them. Those however are not cheap per pair, so I'd wear them when you know you're hands will get covered in dirt/grease/oil.
Here's the best procedure for cleaning hands with extensive automotive grease/oil on them...
#1. Short, well trimmed fingernails. If you do any work that will have significant dirt/grease on your fingers, they must be always be trimmed short.
#2. Use WD-40 or a generic equivilient to preclean your hands of oil/grease BEFORE you attempt to use any heavy duty hand cleaners. Scrub hard with the WD-40 on your hands, and try to scrape the tips of the fingernails before rinsing hands with water.
Many people who have not done this tend to doubt its effectiveness, trust me WD-40 works wonders. I always pre-clean my hands with a good spray of this stuff, and washing them afterwards is almost effortless except for under the fingernails somewhat.
#3. Use Goop, Gojo, or any heavy duty grade hand cleaner to do the main cleaning of hands. To properly get all that grime off including those finger tips, you're going to have to scrub and clean hands like a Medical Surgeon does.
#4. If you are going to eat or finished working, you should wash your hands a final time with regular hand soap to complete the cleaning.

These answers blow. Dude, I work on my car/boat all the time, and the only thing that REALLY works is the hand cleaner/degreaser they sell at auto parts stores. The kind I buy is called Mojo i think, or something like that. Just go to your nearest auto parts store and they'll hook you up. And yes, it not only cleans your hands, but it will even get to under the nails pretty good. And just fyi, keeping you nails cut short will make it a whole lot easier to keep the grime outta there.

Before you start, use a hand lotion and rub it onto your hands and into the ends of your fingers thoroughly. A product meant for hands & nails is Silicon Glove. Look for it.
After getting dirty, use a good hand cleaner on your hands, then scrub it under the nails with a nail brush or tooth brush. Follow up with a hand lotion.
Of course, using gloves while working makes a big difference.

Scrape under your nails with concentrated bleach. Scrape dip, scrape dip, then start using a paper towel to get the rest of it off.

If you're worried about that then you shouldn't touch a car. Seriously. I'm a mechanic on the side and no one says a damn thing about it when I'm working my real job.

You could use latex gloves . If you like using bare hands like I do, use DAWN liquid soap and an old toothbrush and that will get your nails and knuckles clean real quick !
