someone please help..... I applied for a job as a 2010 census taker well, they of course do a background check?

Well I got a letter in the mail today and it said..." The Census Bureau processes all applicants for temporary census jobs through pre-employment name check against the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Justice Information Services Division's criminal file. This check resulted in a tentative match between you and an arrest record in the FBI criminal history index. Because this identification is based on descriptors only, there is a chance that this record does not concern you. Therefor you may do one of the following:

A) If you do not dispute the identity of the arrest record in question, provide OFFICIAL COURT documentation on any and all arrest(s) and or conviction(s) in your past;

B) If you wish to dispute the identity of the arrest record in question, you may provide a set of original fingerprints. Call xxx-xxx-xxxx to obtain a fingerprint card and and return envelope from the office which you applied.

ok now I do have a background I got in trouble for a Public Intoxication and disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. I ended up spending the night in jail got out. Had to go to AA and community service and pay a fine. This was almost 5-6 yrs ago. This was the only time I ever ever got in trouble is this what they are referring to, I am not sure what it is I should do? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

    call the police station, they will tell you what type of check this company is entitled to, and if it would have shown up on their records. also your records should not be accesible after 5yrs for a small crime.

    i got the same letter. i worked for the census in 2006 and did not get any such letter at that time. I have had no arrests since then, only a few traffic tickets. i can't think to what they are referring.

    i did have an arrest years ago, but i was not charged with any crime. this is very disappointing to me and i don't know what to do either. I was counting on this job, especially since I was a crew leader last time.

    Dispute it.

    Determination is the key to success in life.

    Remember you are dealing with the goverment and they make mistakes.

    (A lot of mistakes).

    The person that read it, could have thought you killed someone by mistake.

    Enjoy your new job.

    you'll be able to desire to touch the community census workplace to enroll in a try. counting on how extreme you score on the try, and in the event that they desire census workers on your section, they'll touch you.
