Are Java updates safe? I get pop ups saying I have Java updates ready to download, but I'm not sure if I should. Do I need these Java updates?

If it's really from Java, they're pretty safe.
If it's some malware pretending to be from Java to temp you to click on it, beware!
Best way to be sure is to check manually: Open "Control Panel", launch the "Java" applet, and check for updates.

Yes, Java updates are safe. They're just really, really, annoying. Because Java is a multiplatform runtime environment, they're constantly making minor tweaks to it to make it as universally friendly as possible.
I avoid installing the updates too for more personal reasons (I autoupdate software), but this can eventually cause errors between your computer and an applet if the java code is newer than the version you're running.
SO, the updates won't hurt, and are in fact necessary to a certain degree. They're just invasive and irritating. ;)

Updating Java is necessary. A lot of systems & softwares use java and they will need it. So it is vital updating it. It is safe!

yes they are safe and necessary for your security. you should see the java icon next to clock on task bar. if you are not sure go to java.com and download latest version

No, they attacked my computer. I don't want to use the word rape, because that implies human interaction. In my case they overran my computer and some jabrony acted as though he were a horse with a proclivity to shop. His name was Mr. Hands. Look up Mr. Hands and you'll understand. God help us all, and me, especially.
